In November 2023, STV reported:

The Scottish Government has been urged to back a motion declaring a housing emergency as “Scots cry out for help” amid the crisis. Scottish Labour is set to table a motion in Holyrood which will ask MSPs to agree Scotland is facing a “housing emergency”.

Two basic facts were not mentioned.

First, in 2022, latest data from two days ago, after 15 years of SNP government, there were 2.7 million dwellings in Scotland.

Second, in 2007 after 10 years of Labour/LD devolved government and decades just ‘minding the shop’ for Westminster, there were 2.4 million dwellings, up from 2.3m in 2001.

Was there a ‘housing emergency’ under Labour and if so, what were they doing about it?

  1. STV is an english tv station with the name Scottish in the title because its a part of englands propaganda war on Scotland feeding us lies and irrelevance day in day out whilst depriving us of the information and news other people around the world get freely

  2. Please note : There can only be a ”Housing Crisis ” or ”Drugs Crisis ” or ”Ferry crisis ” or ”NHS Crisis ” or a Crisis Crisis ” under the SNP !

    1. all of the above are a massive issue in England under the Tories and we can’t get a dentist. The SNP have done a much better job even with Westminster deliberate underfunding.

  3. Going by the growth in Scotland’s population (around 500,000 since 2001) and the impressive new homes currently under construction for social rent in Glasgow and the rest of Scotland, the policies of the Scottish government have not only been successful in reducing emigration, they have also made the country an attractive proposition for people looking to live elsewhere.

    The population of Scotland in

    2001 – 5.064m

    2007 – 5.151m

    2024 – 5.583m (by 1st July 2024)

  4. If you walk around Glasgow you will see social housing that is either built or in the process of being built or is in planning. Maryhill Road at the Butney, Bearsden Road in Anniesland, the Gorbals, the East End and the largest social housing project in the UK at Sighthill. I wonder who is doing all the shouting that not enough is being built. Well you do know that we have a massive skills shortage not just in Scotland but the UK. Tie that in with the 60s Baby boomers all retiring at the same time .

  5. The population of Scotland only increased since Devolution 2000. The pop was 5 million since 1900’s and befire. Dipped in the 1950’s. (War). Scotland one f the least densely populated countries in the world. A handful of people own most of it.

Westminster Gov policies depopulated Scotland. The Clearances. The higher unemployment in Scotland because of Westminster policies. Depriving Scotland of its revenues and creating higher unemployment in Scotland. Scottish revenues used to fund London S/E. kept secret by Wedtminster under the Official Secrets Act. Iraq, Lockerbie and Dunblane kept secret under the Official Secrets Act, Iraq kept secret for 100 years. Universal suffrage 1928
