From Public Health Scotland today:
There was one case of laboratory-confirmed measles reported in 2023, in the last quarter of the year. This case was acquired outwith Scotland. Prior to this, the last laboratory-confirmed case, the first since 2019, was a single case in 2022 which was imported from outside the UK.

Why are measles getting little media attention in Scotland? It’s not looking better together as England reports third-world levels of vaccination.

“News you’re unlikely to hear 4 – Thanks to better vaccine uptake there was one case of measles reported in 2023 and it was acquired outwith Scotland”
Ah but that “one case” can then be the instigator for a media backlash that is then conflated with what is happening elsewhere in the UK or Britain (take your pick)……as the proverbial ‘straw that broke the Camel’s back’ moment……grasping at…..by Pro UK media and opposition parties that is…..
Don’t you know this is yet another ‘BRITISH’ problem…..we need to keep up….with the BritNat propaganda……
Scottish achievement equals British achievement
Scottish (and elsewhere) media and all political opposition promoted so called (but not really) lack of achievement in Scotland equals Scottish failure aka #SNPBAD
Ein Volk…Ein Rank….Ein Fuhrer…..translated today in the UK as ONE people (British)…..one realm/country (Britain/UK take your pick) and one leader (UK PM)…..simples.
Oh me bad….and I’m doing it deliberately too…..

When this story first broke via measles cases as in the ‘clusters in a number of English regions, which was mainly in the West Midlands and London’ it was being reported by some as a UK problem……..
The Guardian in January 2024 stated in a headline “The UK is scrambling to stem an alarming tide of measles cases” (A UK wide newspaper where they do not have a printed separate Scottish edition…though they do have a ‘Scottish’ editor Severin Carrell)
Also in January 2024 SKY News reported “Another suspected 70 Measles cases in the UK…….( SKY News broadcast as a UK wide news channel)
The Financial Times headlined also in January 2024 “UK Measles outbreak reveals need to boost child vaccine” ((A UK newspaper where they do not have a printed separate Scottish edition….
BBC Scotland website on 14th February 2024 headlines “Measles warning linked to island sports centre” where story was “NHS Western Isles is warning some people who attended a sports centre in Lewis that they may have been exposed to the potential risk of measles”
Then in a subsequent BBC website story ,a few days later, they reported (on 17th February) that “No measles detected after Western Isles alert” as they stated “The NHS has said a suspected measles case in the Western Isles has turned out to be negative…..
The UK BBC website also reported “Measles is likely to spread rapidly across more parts of the UK unless more people take up the vaccine, a senior health official has warned”.
“Dame Jenny Harries, chief executive of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), says vaccination rates are “well below” what is recommended by the World Health Organization”.
UK Health Security Agency is responsible since April 2021 for England-wide public health protection and infectious disease capability and replacing Public Health England. It is an executive agency of the department of Health and Social care (DHSC)The formation of the UKHSA essentially transferred Public Health England’s health improvement functions to DHSC…..some of their responsibilities are the health protection functions of Public Health England, Planning and executing the response to external health threats such as pandemics and NHS Test & Trace ( a UK Government funded service in England).

Measles can be very dangerous. Children can die. It can affect hearing and cause other aliments. There is a better up take of the vaccine in Scotland.
