Audit Scotland satisfied with SNP ferry contract awards

Scotland’s narrowest ferry correspondent cannot hide his huff as Audit Scotland decide not to carry out further inquiries into the new ferry procurement procedures.

In 2022, they had concerns but, according to the Herald today (unsourced), they appear to have accepted that due process was followed.

Here’s the end after all the hissyfitting:

Audit Scotland previously questioned why a builder’s refund guarantee – which would protect the buyer – was not part of the contract with Ferguson Marine despite usually being a mandatory consideration.

But Audit Scotland in the wake of the CMAL-commissioned investigation and report had decided not to undertake any further inquiries into the contract award affair.

The auditors said they were “satisfied” that the investigation was “both independent and thorough and that his conclusions were reasonable.”

They state: “This investigation highlights some concerns over specific aspects of the procurement process. I am satisfied that CMAL and Transport Scotland have taken steps to correct the issues highlighted in the report and continue to look for opportunities to strengthen their processes.”

Mr Boyle said that having “considered the position carefully” he concluded that a further inquiry “would not add sufficient value to the ongoing scrutiny of the delivery of the vessels”.

Nevertheless, the headline is:

Scotland’s public spending auditor has come under fire over a refusal to carry out a new inquiry over allegations the awarding of the ferry fiasco contract to tycoon Jim McColl’s Ferguson Marine was rigged.

Oh yes, and under fire from whom?

Richard Leonard!

Social distancing or whit!

Remember how Sir Keir Starmer sacked him?

  1. Oh dear, Maritime Williams will be on the rocks tonight drowning in his sorrows.

The amount of wasted time and made up articles that the Herald has put into this anti SNP, CMAL – Calmac ploy. Plus the polls they conducted and then hid after the result was not what they wanted, has been a journalistic fiasco from start to finish.

If only they did actual, relevant and truthful news, then their circulation just might keep them afloat for a little bit longer..

      1. quite right. I worked for the Herald for years when it WAS a newspaper. The present thing is a shadow and an insult to a great newspaper whose views I didn’t always s agree with but was always fair in its reporting

        1. It was always the Scotsman I bought until it decided to trash itself. Then I switched to the Herald. Then I gave up and haven’t bought a paper for years. Around that time my parents gave up on the Press and Journal too. It’s sad that a country the size of Scotland has no national newspapers.

    1. I suspect the Heralds owners want to buy up Calmac cheap so that they can run poor imitation and make a lot of money.

Any other suggestion as to why they would continue with this farcical line of attack would be gratefully received.

  2. The key phrase from AS was ” a further inquiry “would not add sufficient value to the ongoing scrutiny of the delivery of the vessels”. ” – This is what so irks Richard, he would rather waste money on achieving little.

You misquoted the opening paragraph as the headline, which even the real one “Auditors refuse to carry out Scots ferry fiasco contract probe” was wrong, AS had already carried out the probe https://archive.ph/97yId but saw no value in extending it – However, it was disabled seaman Williams’s contrived “the wildly delayed and over-budget lifeline ferries still to be delivered from the now-nationalised Ferguson Marine” which annoyed me most, as if FMEL going bust would somehow have improved matters…

  3. Labour party have booted out a Lambeth, South London Labour councillor , Martin Abrams (he is Jewish) ,  after he voted for a motion put forward by the local Green Party……It called for “an immediate ceasefire and the end to human rights atrocities in the Israel/Palestine conflict”.

Abrams was one of four councillors suspended.

Abrams hit out at Keir Starmer and the Labour leadership for it’s position on the conflict.

Yet we are supposed to believe that Labour, and their (so called) Ceasefire amendment in the HOC, as part of a stitch up Starmer orchestrated in collusion with the Speaker Hoyle, was apparently (but not really) a fairer and far better option to vote FOR than the SNP’s ceasefire motion…..via their, Labour party’s, extension of the Bain Principle (an ongoing lack of principle we witness via the Labour party as in ‘anybody BUT the SNP)

So as Owen Jones tweeted on this “Jewish people are being disproportionately targeted for supporting peace”……and that would be via the Labour party….how ironic at a time when suddenly all focus in now diverted upon 30p Lee and Islamophobia within the Tory party…….but then are Labour really not also indulging in this too via their overwhelming support for Israel (in doing their , Israel’s, bidding to minimise opposition and condemnation on behalf of them in their initial reluctance to call for a ceasefire in Gaza and too their watering down of the SNP’s motion via their mealy mouthed amendment)

This reminds me of the time two Labour councillors were suspended in Edinburgh but that was because of what ?….oh I know ….On Politics Live, Siobhain McDonagh, in 2022 explained t was because “Only last week, we (Scottish Labour) suspended two Labour councillors in Edinburgh because they weren’t prepared to vote for the Tories over the SNP”…..BTW her reward for being a political Idiot and exposing the Labour party on this was for her then to be appointed as a Dame in 2024 for parliamentary and for parliamentary and ‘political‘ service.. ….”Not another one” (from Labour) ……well she certainly did not do much of a “political service” for Labour on Politics Live as she only confirmed their hatred of the SNP and too their support for the Tories (Labour’s former allies in 2014 BT campaign….where Labour were the hand maidens for the Tory party in Scotland)……

Labour party and the ongoing ‘Tangled web they weave when first they practice to deceive’….time and time again…..

  5. Saw this in the FB page of the paper

‘Like Scotland’s oil should be refined in Scotland’s refinery, Scotland’s ferries should be built in Scotland’

So it is Scotland’s oil then.
