There’s so much bad news out there about ferries, from Alaska to New Zealand, you have to wonder how ‘our’ journos have the time to write every day about CalMac.

Today, in the US Times Post:

Ferry captain accused of causing millions of dollars in damage accident by MV Ferry Cathlamet July 2022 had a history of workplace problems at Washington State Ferries (WSF)KING 5 Investigators found.

State records show that in the months and years leading up to the accident, colleagues and ferry managers expressed concerns about Capt. Dave’s ability to safely operate ferries across Puget Sound. Cole.

Cole was officially reprimanded in 2018, 2020 and 2021 for violations such as sleeping on the voyage, falsifying records and lying to superiors.

Despite the concerns and code of conduct violations, Cole was still allowed to pilot the Cathlamet when it crashed while attempting to land at the West Seattle pier in July 2022. The accident endangered passengers. Cathlamet’s guests and crew as well as its residents. Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal.

“I’m angry. I am extremely disappointed that that carelessness cost my family money and put us in danger,” said Roberta Christensen of Vashon Island, a passenger on the day of the crash. “I’m angry, I’m angry. This is unacceptable.”

So 5 years of misbehaviour before getting the boot?

See if you can find one case of a CalMac skip behaving badly to endanger lives. Go on.

  1. Ah but there is NO Ferry business like Scottish Ferry business like no Ferry business we (in Scotland are meant to) know…(about)

Apparently everything about it(Scottish Ferries) is so (un)appealing…..(allegedly)

    So….

There’s (really) no Ferries like Scottish Ferries….apparently as the media tells us so….(time and time again)….

Who needs Ethel Merman when the media in Scotland have their own version of ‘There’s No business like show business’ which they have adapted for Scottish Ferries….and as Ethel sang ‘There’s no people like show people’ the media here are trying to convince us in Scotland that ‘there is no political party like the Scottish National party’ ….(who are, according to the media, both very SNPbad and also very SNPincompetent …..which is of course incorrect BTW…..just look at their opposition)

The media ……clowns that they are…..with their ludicrous antics, buffoonery that should induce ridicule upon them and (hollow) laughter because look at some of the other (political) clowns they, the media, are trying to protect…..via their many political failures, political badness & political incompetence…….BUT.…it’s a wheesht for the (non) Union though (and those who support it)………

  2. Ah, but there is a lot of coal in Scotland, so the Captain most have had dyslectic Scottish antecedents. That is why the ferry damage happened.

  3. John have you seen anything about Shetland scrapping ferries and building tunnels instead? I spotted this via a blog I discovered, the person lives on Shetland fairly new to Scotland though.

    – Shetland: robbing the poor to make the rich even richer

I looked up who heads Shetland Islands council, almost all are ‘independent’.

Not read all of the blog yet, and I suspect the blogger has little knowledge of how Scotland’s councils and government works, but, erd para, a council taking on loans? Hmm, hadn’t heard of tunnels being planned…thoughts?
