Reporting anti-semitism in Scotland badly

that’s according to Jewish charity the Community Security Trust. It says 68 incidents were recorded here in Scotland.

Reporting Scotland, once more headlining a worry about life in Scotland that the website does not feature:

Once more, numbers with no context.

UK-wide, the CST reported 4 103 cases.

With one eleventh of the population, all things being equal, you might expect Scotland to have had around 370 cases but had 68, just over one-sixth of the level.

Might that be newsworthy here?

What were the Scottish examples in the report?

One example of a mass-produced evangelical leaflet sent to a synagogue in Scotland

In 2023, CST recorded 48 incidents that were politically motivated or linked to specific political parties or their supporters – Two of these were connected to the Conservative Party (compared to three in 2022), one to both the Scottish Labour Party and Scottish Liberal Democrats simultaneously.

That’s it.

In terms of categories, there were no incidents of extreme violence and 266 assaults. There is a breakdown of these:

Of the 266 cases of Assault reported, exactly half – 133 incidents – occurred across just five boroughs: Barnet (56) and Hackney (41) in Greater London, Bury (17) and Salford (13) in Greater Manchester, and Gateshead (6) in Northumbria.

So, in Scotland, no physical assaults and only a leafleting case worthy of note in this report?

Reporting Scotland Inadequately.

  1. It probably means a news item concerning anti-semitism in England is expected, hence this ludicrous news item…

  3. Interestingly, the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland recently lost a legal case concerning whether a particular word which is used insultingly against Protestants could be deemed a breach of the anti-hate laws. The judges deemed it not to be. However, in their evidence, the Grand Lodge produced data in which they claimed they were one of the groups with the largest number of offences against them. It was of the order of 550. I saw no details of who had carried out the survey or what the offences actually comprised.

  4. Well there is no show (culpability) without Punch (Scotland)being dragged into a very English dominant mess….

BBC Reporting Scotland….yet another opportunity for them to protect Labour ….in a ‘See it’s not just a Labour problem it’s also a problem in Scotland’…….alas all of the news recently on most media channels (UK/English) and via English editions of newspapers has been via Labour HQ and their leader in respect to their problem, as a party, with anti-Semitism.

The BBC and other media here wait with bated breath for just ONE utterance from an SNP politician condemning Israel’s action to then try to pass the anti Semitism baton from Labour to the SNP…….because there seems to be a very thin line between what the media and certain other individuals are defining as anti Semitic and really what is just honest criticism on Israel’s action (destruction of ) in Gaza……

British media THE most corrupt media that match the corruption within British supporting political parties……and pray tell me what has happened to all of the wall to wall coverage via the media and too via politicians on Ukraine…..has that conflict now ended…..nope….still going in….but you know ,priorities for the media , shifts very quickly dependent on who they support politically…..and opportunities cannot be ignored if a political advantage is to be had….

When a problem begins in England and is promoted as a negative it very very quickly is then promoted as a British problem…..e.g. Comedian Joe Lycett has made a programme on the huge problem of sewage in English rivers etc …..it is being advertised as a UK and a British sewage crisis/problem in British waters ….and here was me thinking it was rogue English Private Water companies making vast profits while dumping sewage that was then being pumped into English rivers and other waters used by the English public….where profit was more important than service and maintenance via these English Private water companies……

Best of British ?….no such thing.

  5. I’m sick and tired of conflating anti-Israel sentiment with antisemitism. They are two entirely different things. Criticising the Israeli government for its persecution of the Palestinian people and the illegal occupation of their lands since 1948, a government that is now committing a genocide against them, is NOT antisemitism. The ICJ recognises what Israel is doing. Many Jews around the world are appalled at what is happening and if they express their views they are called ‘self-hating Jews’ by the Israel lobby, a lobby that completely controls the US government and seems to increasingly control the English Tory and Labour parties.

Zionism, an ideology that denies non-Jews equal rights, is the cancer at the root of the Middle East conflict. Anti-Zionism is not antisemitism as the recent David Miller case shows. The UK employment tribunal ruled he was unfairly dismissed because of his belief that Zionism in inherently racist, imperialist and colonial, a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010.
