One of the biggest and oldest vessels in Scotland’s lifeline ferry network is set to be sidelined for nearly three months.
The 30-year-old MV Caledonian Isles which serves on the Arran route, one of the busiest on the Scottish coast, and is due to be replaced, has been out of action since going for an overhaul at the start of January.
In March 2023, the P&J helpfully listed all 34 CalMac vessels, revealing that, other than the wee, short-crossing, MV Isle of Cumbrae, at 47 years of age, all the others are less than 40.
Meanwhile, in Alaska:
The 61-year-old Matanuska (above), the oldest vessel in the fleet, remains out of service for the second year until “we can get it in the air and take a look at the double bottom” to check for rusted steel plates, he said.

Noted with interest on RS tonight ferries late and over budget sailed under its on steam for the first time snide remarks as usual on the other hand they did not bother mentioning the story in the link below I wonder why,will DRoss be calling for him to be sacked no chance,

RS has zero interest in Stories other than “Scotland Bad”.
They could have run with the vice Chair of the Toadies wanting asylum seekers carted off to Orkney just a few weeks ago.
A story which has obviously encouraged the boss of a Labour “ think tank” to suggest filling a barge with migrants and anchoring it off the north of auld Scotia.
Scotland—-a dumping ground for Engurlunds unwanted, apparently.
We should dump them instead, along with the colonial Norn Irn BBC-not- Scotland.

I see the main UK (English ) news channels are currently all so absorbed with/obsessed by the current and latest Labour mess (of their own making) in respect to the (former) Labour candidate for the Rochdale By election and his so called insults to Israel….
So much so that they, UK News media on TV, have all chosen NOT to highlight another shocking current incident i.e. the ‘send smuggling gangs to Scotland in barges’ offensive remark that was made by the Director of ‘Labour Together’ …………which as a clear insult…..was also an insult and a offensive remark that was made against a WHOLE country, i.e. Scotland, which is, as a country, still I believe, a part of their UK… but alas because it was an insult directed at Scotland via a Pro UK individual linked to a pro UK political party then they, the UK news media, obviously deemed it as too insignificant, unimportant and perhaps even amusing...(after all his subsequent (non) apology stated he said it in jest) thus they, UK media, collectively considered it not newsworthy enough for them to include in their ‘UK’ news programmes tonight, as in news, that includes covering…checks notes…. UK News (allegedly) to a UK wide audience….the only UK wide news they want to cover is via anything connected to Scotland that is a #SNPBAD smear job and too #ScotlandIsSh*te promotion…..
Did either of the branch office news channels in Scotland mention this insult by the Director of ‘Labour Together’ tonight in their ‘news’ programmes ?……
Set your watches (or not)…Scotland Tonight is covering the Scottish Ferries “Fiasco” (their words not mine) as well as an election interview with….Anas Sarwar….is he standing in the next GE then…..of course he’s not….but then he and the media here are fighting this forthcoming UK GE as if it were a Holyrood election with Labour’s opponents being the Scottish government and not instead the reality that we, in Scotland, as voters are all voting to elect an MP in Scotland to sit at WM……in what both Labour and the media here hope will be via their combined efforts in Scotland a win FOR the Labour party as in them winning more seats in Scotland than the SNP …..confused…..that’s what they are all hoping you will be…….UK GE being fought by Labour party and their media as a fight against the Scottish government….and apparently their, Scottish government’s, failure as a government in Scotland….Sssh do not mention Reserved UK government policies…..via Labour HQ…..
Meanwhile in Wales……..UK politics dominate their, both Labour HQ and branch office, campaign…..how very partisan of them…..
