Herald ignores polls to hide Yousaf recovery

The Herald headlines: ‘Beleaguered Yousaf attempts to win back independence supporters ahead of election.’

Beleaguered? What are the facts on this in the polls rather in the minds of Herald editors?

In the most recent full poll, by Ipsos MORI on 26 November 2023, support for the SNP was up at 41% from 34% in the previous poll by Redfield & Winton. 35% were satisfied with how he was doing his job. In the Redfield & Winton poll on 25 October, the figure was only 22%.

41%, even in that poll had him as the better next First Minister as against 26% for Douglas Ross and only 40% thinking Keir Starmer would be the better next PM over 30% for Sunak. Even for Anas Sarwar as possible next FM, they had Yousaf on 35% and Sarwar on 28%.

    1. This is not a criticism of NHS Scotland.

Some years ago, I went to Liverpool for a weekend conference. Unfortunately, I forgot to pack my medication which I need to take each day. I went to a pharmacy and explained my problem. They directed me to a local health centre and said that if I could provide proof of identity, they would issue a prescription which the pharmacy would fulfil. At the health centre, after identifying myself, they asked for my date of birth and my home address. From this they were able to access my medical records. I gave them consent to look at the records and they issued a prescription.

I was and still am delighted with this service.

However, it is possible that without some checks and barriers, Palantir could access NHS Scotland patient data. I am sure that NHS Scotland will have considered this. It would be a pity if we lost this cross border cooperation, as happened when Brexit rendered our EHIC rights inoperable.

      1. I had a similar issue when visiting my mother in Northern Ireland, though the pharmacy phoned my surgery in Scotland confirming the medication and dosage, the pharmacy agreed to supply the medication and charged me accordingly.

        Golfnut.

  1. “Once upon a time” Scotland had newspapers, among the oldest and best respected in the world.
Now they are just sad, yellow page adjuncts to the propaganda peddlers of the Scottish Office/BritNat politicos .
Scottish “Good News” is not news at all in the “Scottish” media.

Only SNP Baddery does for the likes of the Kevin McKenna Brigadooner anti- independence hate-fest Brigade.
Plastic Paddy morphs into Pretendy Independence supporter.

  2. The Healthcare services uses email, phone and communication skills. Well qualified staff with excellent qualifications. Anyone can get treated in any country. Brexit prevents reciprocal healthcare system. Making it necessary for a higher charge for treatment or higher health insurance payment for short visits or travel activities. More costly.

Humza is better than any unionist politician. Better, educated, better skills, better empathy, better knowledge. More than qualified to communicate and consolidate.

  3. I cannot even bear to imagine Dross or Sarwar being FM. They’d destroy Scotland they’d reverse everything that the SNP have to done to start to repair the damage of decades and decades of the EngGovs’ and Labour legacy at Holyrood, resulting in their terrible austerity imposed on the poor and vulnerable, their disgraceful underinvestment in infrastructure, councils plunged into ‘debt’ with their PFI scam, sending £billions back to WM, and thieving Scotland’s massive resources to the tune of trillions of pounds, while keeping Scotland poor and begging.

Scotland was made poorer when the oil was discovered and that was not in the 70’s, the EngBrit state and their US pals knew it was there in the 50’s and 60’s, it just took them a while to extract it, the north sea is not an easy stretch os sea to navigate. Watch films at the NLS image archive about oil, most are not available for free, but some are, interesting re Scotalnd’s oil and industry. Oh and the only reason a geological study was done (way after they’d surveyed England) in Scotland was because a wee lightbulb went on in the English government about how diverse and mineral rich Scotland was and is.

  4. First oil came ashore 1967. On oil tankers. No pipelines until later. Elizabeth got a phial. The pipeline should have come ashore at Peterhead. Thatcher wanted to take it to Newcastle. IThe pipeline got to outside of Edinburgh. The Oil Companies had to pay for the construction right down the north coast. The farmers got compensation for the land use.

Scotland is covered in coal. CCS projects planned for coal, Longannet and Gas Peterhead. Westminster promised £1Billion funding but reneged. Money had already been put in for the Project, by an oil company. Westminster reneged the money was wasted. Scotland is the best place for CCS. Oil & Gas technology and knowledge creates an opportunity.
