  1. They always focus on the aspect which presents the worst case. They omit any context, such as the things presented on by the tweeter. They also omit the social context. Most of these high earners have been settled in Scotland all their lives or for a long time and their children will go to school here and they will have built up a social network. Most people are reluctant to uproot their families, losing the social (emotional and psychological) infrastructure.

For the really wealthy, who own land and significant amounts of property changes to income tax have no or minimal effect. They usually have several other homes not only in the rest of the UK. Their children are probably at boarding school, as they had been themselves. Their tax affairs are arranged so that, no matter where they live, they pay as little as possible, often hee-haw.

    Land and wealth taxes asap!

  2. Douglas Ross questions are nothing more than a carefully prepared script consisting of ready made clips for the media, the BBC used one on the lunchtime Scottish News.

  3. Would point out an extra to this, my daughter lives in rural Northamptonshire and has just put her house on the market. A 3 x bedroom ex-Council house built in the 1950’s for £400,000 whilst I live in a 5 year old detached 3 x bedroom house we bought for £225,000 ~ Spot the difference?

    1. Everything is relative , but how much is your house worth now , I am sure she has a lovely home and lifestyle . If she sold it and moved back to Scotland assuming she and her partner wanted too ,then they would have a better lifestyle bar the weather. The main problem question is why do our brightest and best have to leave Scotland to succeed and benefit when we could have the resources , industry and infrastructure based on current taxation receipt’s from the uk Goverment . Do you know that £1.2trillion in taxation was generated in 2021/2022 of which £220 billion was un allocated (Oil/gas m/renewables) . There is always money for war and defence but not for the NHS,Education ,Social welfare or poverty management .

  4. People earning £100k are those who mostly send their kids to university. If this guy has two teenage kids he’ll also be paying around £10k a year for each of them in England.
Scotland still sounds like a great deal to me.

  5. The Scottish population has increased since Devolution 2000. 5.4million. The Scottish population was 5 million in 1900 and before. Dipped in the 1950’s. (War). It has only risen since Devolution. Scotland needs people.

The Clearances and Thatcher had a negative affect on Scotland.
