Scotland raises £87bn in tax but spends only £54bn – more pro rata than raised in the rest of the UK

Anonymous

Scotland raises £87Billion in tax revenues. Up from £76Billion. Scotland spends £54Billion. More pro rata than raised in the rest of the UK. (£644Billion}

The UK raises £731Billion (down from £817). Westminster is spending £1090Billion. The rest of the UK borrows £100 more. Pro rata £10Billion. 2019/2020. 2020/21. UK Gov whole accounts. June 2022.

Scotland has to pay for waste projects and Westminster mismanagement. HS2, Hickley Point, Trident, redundant weaponry, illegal wars etc. £13Billion is spent a year by Westmibster decommissioning nuclear energy. For 10 years £130Billion. More in the future. Yet Westminster wants to build more. Years late and over budget.

The outcome is the claim Scotland spends £106Billion and is in debt. £30Billion, a third, is spent by Westminster on wasteful projects. Not in Scotland but the rest of the UK giving Scotland accured debt. No taxation without representation. No other democracy has its finances treated in this way.

Westminster spent £270Billion over two years on funding Covid. Much of it wasted in fraudulent, non regulated contracts. Scotland did not receive £27Billion pro rata.

Scotland is 25% in surplus in fuel and energy, and nearer the sources. The energy companies wanted to charge Scotland less. For parity. Westminster would not agree.

Brexit is a catastrophe. Losing £100Billion. Scotland £10Billion. Lost CAP payments, loans and grants, shared Defence costs. The EU contribution was £4Billion getting £Billions back. The nearest, biggest markets and preferential agreements with other major countries.

  1. Scotland raises £87Billion in taxes and receives back from Westminster ( Thank you , most ‘umbly , sir ! ”) £54 Billion .
This is called Levelling Down – a Westminster concept which has been 300 years in the making !

Is there a link to this? The working of the internal market bill?

  3. I think you may find that Scotland does not contribute to HS2. Scotland receives consequentials… according to the SG. It’s important we get things right.

  4. You’ll find that Scotland has a reserved cost though or £52bn that accounts for our state pensions, housing benefit, tax credits, Universal Credit, Child benefit, DLA and so on and on.

Or do we in Scotland just believe in magic money trees and flying unicorns that gives us all that and more for free.

There’s something clearly lacking in the education system in Scotland if you don’t even understand the basics here.

  5. Consequentials of nothing. Westminster should not be spending monies on these wasteful projects. People in Scotland do not want their monies spent in this way. The figures are according to UK and Scottish Gov accounts they can be looked up in 10 mins.

Energy companies wanted to charge according to location. This would have benefitted Scotland for parity. Paying 10% more. The Westminster Gov would not agree. Keeping tarriffs the same all over the UK. Spain pays 1/4 of the charges of the UK for electricity. It is warmer but that does not cover the difference.

Scotland has to pay for pensions and benefits. £25Billion but that does not cover the total difference. £30Billion is spent by Westminster on Scotland’s behalf. On wasteful projects often in the south people in Scotland do not agree on these policies. Brexit etc. Scotland has ever voted Tory since the 1950’s but is subject to Tory/Labour unionist policies they do not agree. Westminster are borrowing and spending more than Scotland. £100Billion in the rest of the UK. £10Billion.

Westminster are spending £1090Billion. Claiming Scotland are spending 106Billion. ‘on Scotland behalf’ 1/3 of which is decided by Westmibster £30Billion. Often in the rest of the UK. £270Billion was spent on funding Covid over two years. Much of it was wasted on non regulated contracts. Scotland did not get £27Billion.

    1. Spending in England (HS2 for example) has nothing at all to do with Scotland and is not attributed to Scotland. Go google HS2 costs Scotland.

Our reserved spend includes a lot more than Welfare. Look at defence costs. Who pays for all our Scottish service men and women? Tanks, Jets, Helicopters? Running of all the bases and airbases?

What about all our debt that we are paying back? Did we just get Furlough for free? What about our foreign embassies and foreign aid? How about intelligence services, MI5/6? HMRC / DVLA etc etc.

These are all shared services which cost money.

  6. Even adding £25Billion to £54Billion = £79Billion. Less than Scotland raises. £87Billion. Scotland losing £3Billion on tax evasion. Tax laws not enforced by Westminster Gov. Scotland cannot borrow but has to pay UK debt. More for the Military than is necessary. Trident, redundant weaponry, illegal wars etc. Scotland cannot manage the Oil and Gas industry. Higher taxes when oil price is high. Lower when the price is low. Westminster mismanagement. Scotland raising more in renewables, (£3Billion) 25% in surplus, nearer the source but prices are not parity.

    1. It’s not £25bn though, the reserved costs are £52bn to help run our military, pay our debt, help run HMRC, MI5/6, help run our embassies for when we get in bother abroad. Pays for our passport offices, foreign aid and so on.

Come on it’s not that hard. We don’t get all that for free. We in Scotland are not so special just to get a free military a free intelligence service, free foreign embassies and so on.

GERS figures are signed off by Scotgov. It was what the 2014 white paper was based on. We run a huge deficit that the first minister signs off on and approves yearly. Published on our own Scotgov website. No opinions from Scottish nationalists matter on the subject, facts are there in black and white.

  7. Look up the UK Gov whole accounts. The Scottish Gov accounts. Figures there in black and white. Government official figures. Unless they are fiddled by Gov.

Highly likely in Westminster favour. They have done for years. Claiming they could not publish separate figures. A click on a mouse. Especially Oil revenues etc. Scottish VAT revenues under estimated.

Or Google monies raised spent in the UK/Scotland.

It takes 10 mins. These figures are Gov figures Westminster and Scottish Gov figures. Look them up. Overall figures. Interesting.

  8. The figures are from official Gov accounts. 2019/2020. On the internet.
2020/21. Published June 2022. Latest figures. They are always a year later. If any authorities published accounts in such a way. They would be put in jail.

  9. Scotland pays £4Billion for Defence. £1Billion too
much for what comes back. Trident and redundant weaponry. £40Billion is spent on Defence. Due to increase. £5Billion. Paying for illegal wars etc. No one wants. Westminster is funding war in Ukraine, killing people. Defence contracts given out without due diligence. Redundant before they are finished. New procurement contracts. They are not finished or out of date. Wasting. £Billions. Scotland gets the bill for it.

Consequentials? They are borrowing and spending so much in the rest of the UK. The borrowing costs increase. Scotland has to pay more to cover it. Making loan repayments. Losing any so called consequentials in repayment costs.

UK raising £731Billion. (including Scotlands£87Billion). Spending £1090Billion. Including loan repayments on the debt.

  10. Scotland pays education, justice system police, education etc from the Block grant £30Million+. The rest is included in the £54Billion spent. + £25Billion pensions benefits, social security. UK spends £250Billion. On pensions and benefits etc.

Look it up. Scotland spends less pro rata in pensions. More elderly people but die younger (Thatcher). Taking all the oil resources illegally. Shutting done all industrial facilities. In Scotland. Increasing unemployment in NI Scotland
NI 20%. The Troubles. Inflation 15%. Interest rates at 17%. Deregulation the Building societies owned by their members. Selling the mortgage books off to the banks to gamble. Reducing bank collateral and reserves from 25% to 13%. Worldwide. Thatcher and Reagan. Blair and Clinton. Brown.

  11. People just do not seem able to read account. Claims the UK Gov is raising £1060Billion in tax. That is what the are spending. UK Gov are raising less in tax. 2019/2020 £817Billion is raised in tax. 2020/21. Last accounts. £731Billion. Tax take in the UK is going down. Scotland raises % more in tax 25%. Westminster wastes it. Westminster spends decides how £30Billion (Scotland) is spent. 25% more is raised in Scotland pro rata. £87Billion. Take £87Billion from £731Billion. £644Billion. An average £64Billion is raised in the rest of the UK. Less than in Scotland. The rest of the UK in more debt. Borrowing. Spending £1090. £731 raised in tax. £359Billion. £270Billion Covid funding over two years. Much was wasted in non regulated fraudulent contracts etc. Some went on NHS. Not enough.

The NHS funded £125Billion a year since 2015 austerity. Not increased. Cut by the Tories. With a growing elderly population. That use the services. Life expectancy going down in the south. Over 120,000 more deaths.

One of the most highly populated countries in the world Japan. Over 100Million+ on two small islands. Live the longest, on average 85, and are more equal. 85.

UK Gov pensions £8,000 a year. A 1/4 of the average wage. Women on average live five years longer. People want to starve their mothers who gave them birth. What a society and UK Gov.. What some people vote in favour. The elderly devouring themselves.

  13. Japan population 125Billion. Twice the UK. People live the longest in the world on average. Osbourne saw a bullet train. Wasted £Billions on HS2 with no business case. A non regulated contract. Borrowed Chinese monies. More to pay back. No enough users to justify the for cost of project. Civil servants even hid the cost. Illegal.

To reduce travel times in the UK, funding should have been invested/spent in the North and Scotland. Journey times take twice as long, the same distance, as in the South. Historical lack of investment. HS2 makes journey time# in Britain longer.
