From the Times Colonist yesterday:
The union representing B.C. Ferries workers has filed an unfair labour practice complaint against the company, after months of wage talks have proven fruitless.
In its complaint to the B.C. Labour Relations Board, the B.C. Ferry and Marine Workers’ Union seeks costs totalling $2.1 million from B.C. Ferries.
The union, representing 4,700 members, said in its Dec. 14 complaint that B.C. Ferries has “undertaken a concerted campaign to undermine the union’s exclusive bargaining agency and lower its reputation among its members.”
“The employer’s efforts have stoked fear and animosity among members which has directly led to discord between the union and its members.”

From BC Ferries in August 2023:
In the three months ended June 30, 2023, BC Ferries’ net earnings were $15.2 million, an increase of $7.3 million compared to net earnings of $7.9 million in the same period in 2022. This is primarily as a result of higher traffic volumes, tariff increases and higher net retail sales, partially offset by higher operating expenses.

So more income but nothing extra for those who earn it?
In 2015, CalMac became a living wage employer. Average salary for a steward is currently £32 000 pa, 36% above UK national average.

So comparably Cal Mac is something of a wonderful ferry company and a rarity worldwide .
Well done Scottish government.
Well done SNP
