On LBC today, the Shadowy Health Secretary, Wes Streeting MP (Labour) has made clear Labour’s lack of loyalty and gratitude for the efforts of nurses, doctors and all other health professionals.
Last week, he claimed they were ‘wasteful’ and using winter crises as an excuse for cash.
In November 2023, he made clear that he wanted the NHS to be ‘wide open to the private sector.‘
In August this year, he described Scottish Labour’s health spokesperson, Jackie Baillie, who had recently compared two child deaths in a Scottish hospital with the mass murderer Lucy Letby, as ‘one of the sharpest political minds in the UK.’ In the UK Labour Party in Scotland, perhaps.
While it seems certain that Michael Shanks, MP for Rutherglen, will have his nose right up there on these matters, will the new Labour candidate for Central Ayrshire (below) be there too? Does he agree that the NHS in Scotland is complacent, wasteful, and should be more privatised? Does he agree that 2 child deaths in a Scottish hospital is just like the work of a baby mass murderer?
Labour candidate for Central Ayrshire, Alan Gemmell OBE and the two local candidates who know a bit about the area but were dumped in favour of retiring high-flying civil servant, born in Irvine but who has never looked back until he wanted a quiet wee number to retire to.

Talking-up Scotland 
This is another probably another case where the Labour Party’s Scottish Branch will claim that it is opposed to head office policies in the hope that there are still a few people around with zips in the back of their heads.

Gemmell has hardly had a career in the diplomatic service. He did stuff in London for about a decade and only after that did his career develop. For the last 10 yrs he’s been like a high a sort of exotic Party Planner in places like India and Israel – but best not go there.
