From BBC Health today:
Campaigners have written to the chief constables of Norfolk and Suffolk to request an investigation into thousands of mental health deaths in those areas.
They say coroners are raising safety issues but no improvements are being made.
A report by independent auditors found as many as 8,440 patients had died unexpectedly over three years.
Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust said it had started a review of patient deaths.
Coroners worried about the risk of future deaths highlight unsafe practices in what are known as prevention-of-future-deaths reports (PFDs). And authorities are required by law to respond with an action plan within 56 days.

In nearly 900 words, there is no mention of any political responsibility as in the Health Secretary, local MPs or councils.
Only in the last words, do we see:
The campaign has also written to NHS England, the Department of Health and Social Care, the Care Quality Commission and local MPs.
A quick look suggests that Norfolk and Suffolk is a Tory stronghold at all levels with the likes of Liz Truss and Therese Coffey representing the folk relying on local hospitals.
The BBC has not approached any politician in the area nor does it platform the Shadow Health Secretary to criticise them.
Imagine that was in Scotland? Pro rata 844 unexpected deaths in one health board?
On 5 September, BBC Scotland reported on a ‘lack of support’ for suicidal cases:
The rate of death by suicide in Scotland fell by 20% between the periods from 2002-2006 and 2013-2017, but is still higher than in England and Wales. In 2021 the rate was 14.2 per 100,000 people in Scotland, compared to 10.7 in England and Wales.

As with drug deaths, comparison with England is used but, as we know, the same approach regarding waiting times for A&E and cancer procedures or staffing levels, is not.
In the above report, the Scottish minister’s image is used along with her comments sympathising with the relatives. In the end, the suicide level has become associated in the minds of many readers with the SNP in government – job done.

Re personalising health issues to SNP/Government ministers – all grist to the mill for the Yoons perpetual desire to do down the Scottish government and convince the Scottish people they are completely crap and uniquely incapable of governing themselves.

The Opposition Parties in Scotland BBC , Tory , Labour , would say that THEY are doing sterling work in holding the damned SNP Government to account for all the myriad faults that exist ONLY in Scotland under their administration :
Delayed Ferries because of the lack of SNP naval expertise in monitoring 24/7 the work of construction , Hospital infections due to poor pigeon control by SNP Health Secretary ignorant of the mating habits of doves , flooding problems caused by the failure of SNP First Minister to solve the Global Warming crisis , supposed education failings because SNP Education Secretary had too much integrity to resort to cheating on PISA tests unlike their English counterpart who had the nous to do what Tories have always done ….
