Regulars here will have seen many many reports revealing how uniquely BBC Scotland politicises health issues such as deaths in hospital or delays in building hospital by linking these to the SNP Government rather the board actually responsible and platforms opposition politicians to attack the Government.
In sharp contrast, BBC Wales and BBC England rarely if ever do so. If you need a reminder of this, see: https://talkingupscotlandtwo.com/2021/08/11/nothing-proves-bbc-scotlands-bias-more-clearly-than-bbc-wales/ and https://talkingupscotlandtwo.com/2020/08/19/horrific-failures-in-essex-hospital-lead-to-no-calls-for-hancocks-head/
Yesterday, from BBC Northern Ireland:
Fresh evidence has cast doubt on the findings of an inquest into the death of a former patient of discredited neurologist Michael Watt. Stephen Sparkes died in 2006 at the age of 32. In 2010, an inquest found an epilepsy drug he was taking was “complicit” in his death.
A coroner said the drug was “properly prescribed” but a review last year found Stephen was misdiagnosed. It said Stephen should have been taken off the medication before he died.

Not in the BBC Northern Ireland report, a single mention of the Health Secretary, the Government or any comment from an opposition politician.
From BBC Scotland in November 2022:
A damning report has highlighted failures in how NHS Tayside oversaw a surgeon who harmed patients for years. The internal Scottish government report into Prof Sam Eljamel, which has been leaked to the BBC, said the health board repeatedly let patients down. It outlined failures in the way Prof Eljamel was supervised and the board’s communication with patients.

In the BBC Scotland report, 3 references to ‘Humza Yousaf’ then Health Secretary, 5 references to ‘Scottish Government’ and this:
But Tory MSP Liz Smith said there now needed to be a public inquiry.
“It’s not just about the medical malpractice, it’s about the lack of accountability and with all the procedures that were supposed to investigate what had gone wrong, we’ve never got to the truth,” she said. That’s absolutely something that I think these patients deserve, they deserve justice and I’ve watched them suffer over a very long period of time. My heart goes out to them.”

So now, BBC Wales, England AND Northern Ireland do not politicise health reports and only BBC Scotland does. BBC Bias in its clearest form.

Also sorry O/T
Jackie Baillie accused the SNP of “game playing” over ceasefire in Gaza vote in the HOC as her HQ leader , Starmer, came under pressure to also back a ceasefire….BUT he did NOT.
On 14 November Scottish Labour ,as in Jackie Baillie (again) , accused the SNP of “Punch and Judy politics” for its plans to hold a vote calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Scottish (INO) Labour leader Anas Sarwar backed and voted FOR the Scottish Government’s call for a ceasefire as did one Jackie Baillie also vote FOR it as she is one of the 21 Labour MSP’s who are noted as having voted FOR the ceasefire in Gaza at the vote in the Scottish parliament yesterday…..
Part of that motion that JACKIE BAILLIE VOTED FOR that was submitted by Humza Yousaf included this “ agrees with many in the international community that all parties must agree to an immediate ceasefire” ………..
So Jackie who is REALLY “game playing” here and adopting “Punch & Judy politics” ……perhaps it was the strong feelings of many Scots and also very much too Muslims in Scotland who support a ceasefire in Gaza that swayed YOUR conversion to VOTE FOR a ceasefire in Gaza in parliament yesterday (GE next year so must play the game)…..as opposed to those weak ‘principles’ that you supposedly held but alas fell at the FIRST hurdle in the vote yesterday where you ROWED back , U-TURNED indeed REVERSED your previous position via the many previous statements you made on this VERY topic………also known as playing party politics…….God forbid the BBC will highlight her duplicity or rather her modus operandi being one who is seen to prefer to deploy a “Gutter style politics” to any debate or political situation in Scotland……..

Also BBC have issued yet ANOTHER correction and clarification on yet ANOTHER mistake made against the SNP which is as follows:
“While introducing an item about the SNP conference starting in Aberdeen we said that “there is an ongoing court case looking at the party’s finances.” To be clear there is no court case currently happening around this – instead there is an ongoing police investigation into the SNP’s finances and at present nobody has been charged under that inquiry”
Who the Hell do they employ who is producing this fake news and who the Hell is signing it off as OK , FACTUAL, CORRECT so let’s broadcast it………..I mean not really a mistake is it…..”COURT CASE” …….”POLICE INVESTIGATION”…….remember this FAKE news would have stood if someone had NOT challenged it…..that is the level (as in at the bottom) the BBC are at as so called ‘news’ providers……this particular FAKE news item was attributed to BBC R4 and can be found on the BBC website under ” Help & Feedback” in the “Corrections & Clarifications” section…….with an endless list of corrections and clarifications noted…..seems to me that a clear out of both their researchers and those who are higher up the food chain in the BBC who sign off these items needs to be done…..or perhaps in many cases they need to take the POLITICS out of their stories as in who THEY support and who THEY oppose which is then reflected in THEIR incorrect and biased output……oh but the BBC warn us all of the perils of seeking information and news via social media and thus what they describe as it being often Fake news….POT KETTLE BLACK….indeed

On 21 November, the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) published a report entitled ‘Right Place, Right Care: Learning the Lessons from the UK Crisis in Urgent and Emergency Care in 2022’.
It was co-produced with the following healthcare organisations:
Association of Paediatric Emergency Medicine, British Geriatrics Society, British Thoracic Society, British Society of Gastroenterology, Centre for Perioperative Care, Diabetes UK, The Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, Royal College of Anaesthetists, The Royal College of Emergency Medicine, Royal College of General Practitioners, Royal College Paediatrics and Child Health, The Royal College of Pathologists, Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of Psychiatrists, The Royal College of Radiologists and The Society for Acute Medicine.
The Executive Summary states (with my emphasis): ‘Patients are being DISADVANTAGED BY AN URGENT AND EMERGENCY CARE SYSTEM THAT DOES NOT HAVE ADEQUATE CAPACITY AT EVERY STAGE’ and adds ‘The GREATEST HARM OF THIS CRISIS IS BEING BORNE BY THE MOST VULNERABLE; older people, children, the psychiatrically unwell and those living with serious long-term conditions.’
In a press release, the President of the RCEM is quoted referring to: “expert analysis as well as DEEPLY MOVING PATIENT TESTIMONIES” as well as adding “Compiling (the report) has been A SOBERING EXPERIENCE AND IT BRINGS INTO SHARP FOCUS MANY OF THE SERIOUS ISSUES FACING THE HEALTH SERVICE.” In the same press statement, the President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health says “CHILD HEALTH IS IN A CRISIS, and we can see it first hand in our paediatric emergency care” and goes on “Last winter was one of the toughest on record for paediatrics, and WITH LITTLE PROGRESS HAVING BEEN MADE THIS YEAR it is easy to feel discouraged.”
Explicitly aimed at policy makers and published in the context of an upcoming UK general election, the report purports to be UK-wide in the scope of its analysis and its recommendations. However, most of its data sources are just for NHS England and the ‘patient testimonies’ are not located geographically.
As far as I can determine, this new report from the RCEM and others has RECEIVED ZERO COVERAGE FROM THE BBC – unless you know otherwise? Given the range of negative references contained in its text, it would be a BBC Scotland headline writer and journalist’s dream source! Odd what gets the ‘creative juices’ flowing in different parts of the BBC!
So here we have omission from BBC News of a critical and comprehensive report from highly credible organisations about A&E services, mostly evidenced from England. From prior evidence on TuS, we know of the sharp contrast between the intense, always negatively framed news coverage of A&E services in NHS Scotland and the ‘light touch’ coverage of equivalent matters in England and Wales. And we also know of the highly politicised news coverage of NHS Scotland in sharp contrast with the tone of coverage by the BBC of NHS news stories in England and Wales.
In such circumstances – where there is no context, no perspective, no comparative evaluation concerning NHS Scotland relative to the NHS in other parts of the UK provided by the BBC or others in the pro-Union mainstream media (unless there is a negative to be drawn out) – what’s left to mitigate their gaslighting narratives? What’s left other than attempts to fill even just a bit of the information void via TuS?
