BBC Scotland, no author named of course, reveals its decline into foul-smelling tabloid reporting today with the above image of a 3-4 year-old representing what turns out to be a 12-16 year-old 50 years ago, and this headline:
Child Abuse Inquiry: Child jailed among sex offenders
To avoid really distorting the facts, it really needs to be:
Child Abuse Inquiry: Teenager jailed among sex offenders 50 years ago
The Child Abuse Inquiry concerns the period 1930 to 2014. We, justifiably, need to hear about recent conditions so that we can consider what needs to be done, now. That would be ‘news’ from our taxpayer-funded public service broadcaster with a charter requiring it to inform us.
This frankly exploitative and disgusting report is entirely about one account of treatment in the 1970s of 12-16 year-old then directly linked to a contemporary statement from ‘the Scottish Government website.’
What possible relevance does a report from 50 years ago have for policy today unless your purpose is to somehow associate the current SNP government with the abuses tolerated by a political system then dominated by the Labour Party.
At best this is shoddy, lazy, incompetent. At worst it is deeply dishonest.

I also noticed this BBC Scotland article –
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-67370793
“Minister’s £11,000 iPad bill is legitimate expense – Humza Yousaf”
It mentions the amount of his salary –
“Mr Matheson, who as the cabinet secretary for health and social care receives receives a yearly salary of £118,511, has agreed to pay £3,000 towards the bill from his expenses budget.”
The figure quoted by the BBC is the full salary however it is not the full picture.
It should also have mentioned, while Scottish ministers are taxed on their full salary they have also been observing the voluntary pay freeze (in place since 2008/09) and returned any pay increases to the Scottish Government for public spending.

According to this snide Daily Express article on Scottish Cabinet Ministers pensions, a Cabinet Minister is paid £96,999 instead of £118,511.

No problem. 👍
I BBC Scotland has just reported –
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-67382388
“Health Secretary Michael Matheson agrees to pay back £11k iPad bill”
Their new article still includes details of his salary –
“Mr Matheson, who as the cabinet secretary for health and social care receives receives a yearly salary of £118,511, had already paid £3,000 towards the bill from his expenses budget.”
But, fails once more to mention while Scottish ministers are taxed on their full salary they have also been observing the voluntary pay freeze (in place since 2008/09) and returned any pay increases to the Scottish Government for public spending.
Their political correspondent for Scotland, Philip Sim, also failed to mention it in his analysis.

It’s a vendetta……..this example in your article conveys their desperation to create anything which could suggest #SNPBAD while obscuring the reality of the involvement or responsibility lying with any Pro UK political party……
A constant hammering of the SNP by the BBC here.
Yesterday they were up in arms about Michael Mathieson and an iPad bill.
They sought comment from TORY Craig Hoy who said an investigation needs to be done…..would that be after ALL of the outstanding investigations on TORY HQ expenses that so far have been brushed over and filed under “Let’s not go there’ …….Tory HQ expenses that far exceed anything any SNP minister or SNP FM or even the whole party of the SNP has spent……the following are but SOME examples but NOT an exhaustive list…….for that one would use up an excessive amount of space with which to list ALL money wasted by them……the TORY party…..of which Craig Hoy is a member of…..when in deflection mode in Scotland.
Boris’s feasibility study on a Bridge too Far from Scotland to NI which cost as a study £90,000.
Chris Grayling when Transport minister spent millions on what referred to as “Phantom Ferries” in the event of a no deal Brexit.
The fiasco of the HS2 TORY project that is way way over budget and much much delayed in it’s completion and too that has failed to fulfil what was promised initially via where it would start and end as a service.
TORY government ministers involvement in the TORY peer Michele Mone fast track VIP lane PPE contract scandal that was awarded to a company she has now admitted she was connected to…..
So BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation OUR tax paying money here in Scotland is being spent too via the UK government (and sometimes we are not even beneficiaries of these projects) ….as we are STILL a part of the UK…..how about highlighting all of the UK government’s wasting of TAX PAYERS money instead of always ONLY focusing on money spent by Scottish ministers and the SNP…….or would that not fit in with YOUR relentless agenda of promoting #SNPBAD

Very well put all you say is true but they are Tories so what else would we expect but you wont hear about it on BBC.

You missed a zero NMRN; the bill for the bridge study was £896,681.
Not that I have a shred of proof, but my inner cynic is telling me that more than 8% of that found its way onto the GERS tab.

Thanks Drew…….as to GERS tab….aye that sounds about RIGHT (NOT)…..something else never highlighted when they all collectively go mental mental chicken oriental on Scotland’s so called DEBT……should instead by a ‘DEBT of Gratitude’ to Scotland for providing so much towards their UK Treasury’s coffers via OUR resources etc
Have a nice evening Drew

I think the unionists (media and politicians) are trying to undermine any hopes of independence by trying to convince Scots that Scotland is a basket case. In that respect it is a similar approach to the Republicans in the USA. The Torygraph likes to regard itself as a serious newspaper but all it seems capable of doing over the last year or so particularly is trolling those of us who believe in independence. I hope the SNP get their rebuttal unit up and running soon it is increasingly needed with the degree of unhinged attacks that are going on.
