Research – Antisemitic incidents particularly rare in Scotland

Research from CST published yesterday, reports 1 019 antisemitic incidents across the UK in thje last 28 days. Of those , 17 took place in Scotland.

The UK population of 67.3 million is 12.3 times greater than that of Scotland at 5.4 million so, all things being equal, the UK figured might have been expected to be around 12.3 times 17 or 210. It was 1 019, nearly 5 times higher.

The nature of the incidents is not broken down . There were 47 actual physical assaults across the UK. I can see no reports of any in Scotland.

In a rare report on 10 October 2023, we can read

In Scotland, unfortunately, we know that when conflict escalates in the Middle East, we see antisemitism rise in the UK.

  1. It is 17 too many, but, nevertheless, the difference in frequency of occurrence is noteworthy.

Was there any data on Islamophobic incidents?

    1. Of course, Channel 4 News has always been hostile to Scotland. The previous ‘Scotland correspondent’ Ciaran Jenkins was Welsh and clearly his remit was to report bad things about Scotland. The current ‘Scotland correspondent’ is Scottish – the first Scot to be on Ch4 News (who smugly present themselves as multi-ethnic and pro-other-abled) is ex-STV and so knows how to do Scotland down and does so even more nastily than any of the BBC Scotland or Guardian ‘Scotland’ staff.

  2. Clearing up an error from me.
After MSM Monitor closed their Twitter account, I mentioned other invaluable sources of real information, citing Business for Scotland and Richard Murphy.
I offer sincere apologies for not putting Talking-Up Scotland front and foremost.
TUS is my go toinformation platform for immediate and long term rebuttals of MSM and opposition distortions, disinformation and outright lies.

    1. Well said and I totally agree.

I notice on Wee Ginger Dug that BBC Scotland have been found out using a photo supposedly of a Bonfire Inferno in Cumbernauld. Turns out the photo was actually from Northern Island celebrating the anniversary of the battle of the Boyne!

BBC Scotland have been forced to replace the fake photo with a few burning boxes near a bus stop, this time from Niddre in Edinburgh.

Ah some things never change in Pacific Quay 🙂

  3. O/T

I see we have had ANOTHER correction from the BBC….

THE BBC has corrected an article after an image caption placed an Eleventh Night bonfire from 2021 in Northern Ireland as a November 5 bonfire in Cumbernauld.

Yesterday on social media they issued this (as yet ANOTHER correction/apology) :

““We have removed an image from an online news article about bonfire night which referenced previous fires in Scotland. The picture caption was attributed to the wrong location. We apologise for the error.”………..the image was replaced on Saturday morning.

One Twitter/X user flagged the photo, highlighting the image was not where the caption stated……. he said “This photograph was taken on July 11th, 2021, by PA photographer Niall Carson in the loyalist Corcrain area of Portadown, Co. Armagh. The linked article states it’s ‘Firefighters extinguishing a huge bonfire in Cumbernauld’.”

The BBC article published on Friday evening, titled “Fireworks: Can we prevent violence around Halloween and Bonfire Night?”, the broadcaster included a photograph of two firefighters extinguishing a blaze.

This was captioned: “Firefighters extinguishing a huge bonfire in Cumbernauld”.

The BBC tweet accompanying the story, which displayed the image, said: “The riots and criminal damage that blighted Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night 2022 led to questions about how Scotland organises, legislates and even simply tolerates what are meant to be fun nights for everybody.” (sourced via The National)

Now had this NOT been HIGHLIGHTED as an error it then would have STOOD as FAKE NEWS…..so tell me was it DELIBERATE or are the BBC employing incompetent idiots, who unlike reputable news organisations in the world, never FACT CHECK (or know HOW to check facts) thus print and say things that any real news organisation would know to NOT do as their reputation would be in question…..alas I fear the BBC here has gone beyond that point in their propaganda agenda to STOP the SNP and too independence……seems to me as if this new BBC ‘Verify’ Unit that the BBC ‘set up’ is but a ‘smokescreen’ that was created to excuse how useless the BBC News team are….and obviously does not extend to Scotland………as BBC Scotland news are very much more lax in all they report as so called ‘news’ where we (supposedly) are but clearly is NOT ……..

In the BBC writing that .”Guy Fawkes Night 2022 led to questions about how Scotland organises, legislates and even simply tolerates what are meant to be fun nights for everybody.”……aye see political again…..BBC Scotland (INO) news usual drip drip drip of …..#ScotlandIsSh*te and #SNPBAD

The only question we should have is how the BBC news in Scotland “ORGANISES” it’s news stories, who “LEGISLATES” it and how the Hell Scotland “TOLERATES” them as those who are meant to be, but are clearly NOT, a fact driven and accurate NEWS programme fit for purpose in Scotland ……that’s the real question.

  4. Were I to confess scepticism to reports of antisemitic incidents as opposed to anti-Israeli-government incidents, would that be antisemitic ?

There was a curious interview in the last week on the Gaza protests where a supporter of the protests was called antisemitic by a motormouth (I think American) on video link from Israel – Clearly motormouth didn’t know the supporter was jewish.
It was bizarre to watch as motormouth had to be muted for the supporter to get a word in, all the while motormouth was yammering away silently on the video link.

  5. “Government officials have drawn up deeply controversial proposals to broaden the definition of extremism to include anyone who “undermines” the country’s institutions and its values” according to documents seen by the Observer.

So tell me how Sir Keir Starmer’s plea for us all to recognise, accept and thus embrace a united “British patriotism” in his UK is then not just an extension of the above Tory government’s “deeply controversial proposals”….

Starmer is proud to be BRITISH and proud to be ENGLISH but then he draws the line at those of us who are proud to be JUST SCOTTISH……as he files that under ‘Nationalism’ and ‘Separatism’ while ignoring the Elephant in the room that is English Nationalism and too the resulting separation from the EU that happened because of Tory Brexit, same Tory Brexit that he himself recognises, accepts and embraces as a British/UK form of separatism from the EU which he desperately disguises in presenting it as British patriotism……while ignoring the fact that TWO nations in his UK voted against it …….which he and others conveniently try to obscure as a fact by hijacking the word democracy as being somehow THE valid reason for us, in both Scotland and Northern Ireland, to just accept it as a UK policy……with no alternate democratic option ‘allowed’ to be ‘given’ to us in their undemocratic state aka the UK.

    Duck that I say.

    1. Namely the monachy, English parliament, HOL, bbc and of course the English constitution. OK to undermine the SG and Scottish Parliament, our right to determine our own future, our right to vote, protest, benefit from and control our resources and so much more.
