Deactivation means all the archives are lost even the more useful exposures of BBC bias in recent times.
Why on earth have they done this if they haven’t been hacked or threatened? It’s hard to think of a reason any in the Yes movement could be happy with.
I was a big fan of all of the above sites in the headline, until they either went off in a huff with the SNP or, now, they just disappear with no good explanation.
I’m staying despite or perhaps because I’m the oldest?
MSM had 40 000 plus twitter followers compared to TuS just about to hit 10 000.
I know we’re not as punchy, quick and eye-catching but there’s important stuff there most days so keep sharing.

Keep up the great work John, I suspect dark forces at work given the lack of explanation

Money is what usually pulls the plug on good causes.
I suspect
their income has been torpedoed and their work become unsustainable
OR
their income has received one of those golden goodbye handshakes
Which is it ?
Either way itβs a huge loss for us

Did they have to declare subs income anywhere?

I suspect it is more likely that the person involved got tired and, probably, had other matters more pressing. In one of the campaigning organisations (not a pro-independence one!) of which I am a member, we had a member who produced a weekly list of planning proposals and consultations in the Strathclyde area. It was a herculean task, which was done while doing a full-time job. He has a close family member who needs attention and can no longer devote time to the voluntary task.

Keep with it John , I have been following you from the start , you are more ‘in depth’ than MSM was so you fill a much needed gap .

Maybe they got wind of a new series of BBC Scotland’s interminable saga ‘the ferries’?

Hi John, me and a small group of friends have started up ‘News for Scotland’. I’d say it was partly inspired by you and your approach to things. We have little or no money but lots of enthusiasm to provide an online news outlet on issues that MSM won’t, or mis- report, or to try and clarify. We pick up and cover current affairs in Scotland and beyond that affect the people of Scotland. We will cover environmental issues as well as the arts. We are all volunteers who are writers, poets and musicians (I have an environmental PhD) and there’s not a press card among us. We only got together five weeks ago and we already have three weekly podcasts uploaded to our website. It’s all a wee bit rough and ready at the moment but we will get better equipment and we will get better at talking into mics and editing it all down. It seems to have been well received in its first few weeks. I would like us to eventually podcast more than once a week and or maybe have some stand alone features on the website. I think the potential for something really good is there.
All that said, it is a real shame that some of the investigative online news and information groups are closing. We were hoping to add to them not replace them. Still, I hope you’re not feeling too lonely, what you are doing is important and I hope News for Scotland can add to what you are doing.

Got a link to the website? I tried searching for it under the name ‘News for Scotland’ but all I got back were links to the usual suspects – Sun, Express, Scotsman, BBC, STV etc

A huge loss. I must admit that I am shocked, but your work is now all the more valuable. Oddly, on twitter I did not follow you until just a few days ago because I have followed your blog for years which is much more important to me. Needless to say (I hope), I tweet links to your blog on twitter, rarely missing a day.

This is devastating news John, their and your work is invaluable. I’d happily donate if money is an issue. Could you conceivably split some of your prolific output into similar bite size tweets? PS Can’t see their actual announcement tweet on their X feed.

Yes, I’ve considered that but after 40 years in HE, just cannot leave out important detail.

Money?
I’m guessing that may have been the issue for them

Oops I wrote a wee piece but it did not appear
Perhaps took too long to compose or it was unclear
So I will just say this sad news made me shed a wee tear
That is , the news , that they as an account, will soon disappear
As opposed to them deciding to persevere
So it leaves me to volunteer
In my offering them my thanks which I state is sincere
I’m a ‘poet’ and I know it but perhaps this ditty does not show it ….LOL
All the best for the future MSM Monitor and thanks for all you did

There is a rumour on Twitter – I can’t bring myself to calling it by it’s silly new name X – to the effect that the MSM Monitor team may be off to head up the SNP’s recently announced Rebuttal Unit. If true, I’d say the Unit will be in good hands.
But I can’t for the life of me understand why the Twitter account was deleted – a valuable resource lost. Unless, of course, everything was safely stored on a laptop/PC somewhere…

I’ve already posted this to X but as far as I can tell from the blurbs the rebuttal unit is to deal with misinformation about independence matters and the intention is to provide that to activists for their use. So much as we all want an SNP MSM Monitor type of analysis, it’s not going to perform that function. Happy to be proved wrong.

‘Limit’. Hmm, if only the ‘media’, daily far right wing rags, and BBC et al, would feel the same way, and end their disgraceful anti democratic lies and propaganda against the people of Scotland. Thing is it works, and it never ‘runs it’s course’.
So why pull the whole of the site/account so that no one can refer back or use their what was excellent material to counter the BritNat EngGovs’ lies being used to flounce Scotland and undermine democracy for people of Scotland. I don’t know but it seems very odd, being the conspiracy theorist that I am at times, I do not wholly believe it’s because they had nothing else to say or report on, to inform those who saw, read and shared their work across various important platforms.
Something stinks.

The suggestion that they might decamp to boost the SNP rebuttal unit might explain why I found, surprisingly, I was blocked Γome time back- were they super-sensitive?using blacklists?

Everybody – including hard NOs – need a site like yours. In 2014 there was no really clear info for the politically-challenged, like myself, about how Scotland would work post-Indy. It could have been BBC editing, but all I seemed to see was a certain Mr S smiling beatifically/smirking patronisingly (depending on your personal view) and saying “Oil”. Oh, or being advised to wade through a detailed manifesto – great for the politically-minded, not so much so for the entity-in-the-street.
One day, when reading to Grauniad (don’t judge – it used to be OK) I asked one of the Scottish posters where I could get better, more honest, info on the real situation. They pointed me HERE. Which led to other sites (some of which have gone a bit erm… odd… since)
It was a whole new world and I’ve never looked back. You’re certainly not alone. I don’t really do much social meeja, but will mention TuS and a couple of other well-informed and balanced sources to anyone who seems willing to think.
Much appreciated. Just one little thing. Do you know anything about ferries..? π
