Today, the Guardian has sacked its long-serving cartoonist Steve Bell for the above, suggesting it refers to the clearly anti-semitic, Shakespeare’s ‘pound of flesh’ and labelling it anti-semitic.
Nine years ago, I wrote to Steve Bell, praising his work generally but regretting that he had done this:
He wrote back to call me a ‘nationalist dupe!’ I replied with my usual sophistication – ‘Bellend!’
A friend and fellow Bell-admirer suggested, in desperation, that maybe the missing four-letter word beginning with ‘f’ was ‘free?’
Do I welcome his sacking now? Of course not, I’m over it.

It’s things like this that start a world war.
USA causing havoc along the coast of China sailing their war ships up and down the coast of China 4000 miles away from USA.
USA causing havoc in the mediterranean along the coast of Israel Gaza Lebanon a move to threaten anyone who wants to bring water food medicines doctors to the aid of Gaza.
USA causing havoc across the whole of Europe persuading U.K. to brexit in order to prepare in advance, for the Ukraine war , which was brought on by USA helping Zelensky ( an actor not a politician ) to become president of Ukraine and then persuading Zelensky to invite the USA to put missiles on Ukraines border with Russia ,USA missiles that had NATO hurriedly printed in the side.

This blog is first and foremost about independence for Scotland and I don’t recognize you as a regular poster (my apologies if I’m wrong). Invading another country and slaughtering its civilians isn’t acceptable, but this is what Hamas have done (and evidence has been found suggesting the same of Russia in Ukraine). These are war crimes and Hamas and Russia both appear to think they can escape the consequences.

This is also what Israel has also done. War crimes by Hamas do not justify war crimes by Israel which Israel not only thinks they can escape the consequences of, they will do so.

That particular cartoon by Bell of Salmond was considerably less offensive than the one of Salmond and Sturgeon with a bubble saying they would always protect the right of Scots to commit incest, a traditional racist accusation against any minority. That the Guardian published it established my conviction that they would never see another penny from me. Do I celebrate Steve Bell’s firing? Frankly. Yes.
