We are beyond the era of journalism, it is now news management, aka propaganda

Average age of supposed latest news – 3 DAYS!

Responding to yesterday’s post, also prompted by Bob, which showed BBC Scotland news to be lingering on their website far longer than the stories on the other three nation’s BBC websites, an analysis worth a further look

Bob Lamont

It’s not BBC Scotland laziness, far from it – They must examine tens of news releases from SG daily before picking say one to which they can change the angle, or more generally ignore by supplanting with their preference as to what “the news” should be, the “news where you are”.
eg On the BBC Wales page there is a regular feature, “First Minister’s Questions : As it happened on 10th October”, which seeks to inform the electorate on the topics of the day discussed.

When was the last time anyone saw mention from BBC Scotland of SG’s FM questions unless it involved some controversy potentially embarrassing to the administration, or some hyperbole from the Opposition they wished to promote ?

Yet this control over what IS or IS NOT news extends far beyond BBC Scotland’s readers.

The promotion of specific articles to the BBC UK page makes it Scotland’s top story in England – eg this morning on top spot is “Israel-Gaza attacks: Humza Yousaf’s wife fears for ‘terrified’ family” by James Cook and Paul O’Hare – Interesting and concerning though the story is, who determines THAT is what concerns most Scots ?

Then there is the ‘news pool’ -Almost every Pacific Quay article goes into it, and with every news outlet drawing from it, little wonder STV, National or P&J replicate the same story, reinforcing the impression this is what most concerns Scots.

We are beyond the era of journalism, it is now news management, aka propaganda.

  1. The propaganda machine is vital to the UK state who are trying to punt the ein reich, ein volk narrative.
In order to succeed they have to convince Scots that Scotland is neither a nation nor country and that we should not be thinking independently of the message from London.
BoJo’s recent statement exposed exactly how the Westminster/English establishment view the other nations ( regions) that constitute the British Isles.
    Irrelevant.

  2. The msm with BBC Scotland in the vanguard is the sole reason we’re not Independent. If news and debate were flipped and covered the inequities of the UK and the opportunities from Indy we’d be long gone by now.

  3. Article is spot on.

“Who determines THAT is what concerns most Scots” ?

Well I think what they really determine in their choice of what they present as significant and worthy news to highlight as a story is decided by ….what stories could potentially do more damage to the Scottish government politically and what stories could increase support for other parties or a specific political party who they think may stand a chance in gaining seats from the SNP in Scotland (to include the suppression of all negativity connected to opposition parties that we on here, and others outwith here, all write about ).

It is now very obvious that Anas Sarwar is being shielded and too promoted by the BBC here yet given this situation is being done to try and see New New Labour gain seats in the next GE…..the significant fact here is that Sarwar is NOT the leader of the New New Labour party thus HE is not THE one who decides New New Labour policy so I fail to see how his promotion as the ‘Good guy’ and thus the ‘best option’ is in any way relevant for a WM election……but then perhaps the BBC know that Starmer is not an attractive prospect that will win over Scots, considering what he and his chosen top team state they will do if New New Labour win the next GE , so in effect while Sarwar is being promoted we also see Starmer secondary in the “news where we are” via the BBC……yet we all know Sarwar is also connected to negativity as far as the ‘news where we are’ is concerned and a really significant story is the collusion between Labour and the Tories in Scottish councils, which as a significant story, is one the BBC choose NOT to highlight or place any emphasis upon…..yet that is news that would , if promoted more, discourage voters from voting for his party and also expose Sarwar’s hypocrisy……alas the BBC here are currently more concerned with celebrating the recent win in the By-election for New New Labour as being seen as a significant (contrived) factor in a supposed resurgence of the Labour party in Scotland…..and with the BBC’s help in their, New New Labour’s, campaign then they hope it will be a successful outcome for New New Labour and too very very much FOR their UK too…..alas for us who live in Scotland ….not so much.

  4. The reason it’s not happening in Wales (to the same extent) is that the threat of a vote for independence is not perceived to be as serious there. If the polling in Wales started to indicate a shift to YES support there then BBC Scotland would get a call from BBC Wales asking to borrow their propaganda handbook.
