99% think Labour’s ‘New Start’ is ‘just waffle’

In an Xtwitter poll of 10 000 TuS followers, 99.2% agreed that Labour’s mysterious ‘New Start’ is just waffle and only 0.08% believed it is a real thing.

None of the 0.08% were prepared, however, to define it for us.

  1. “New start”…”Fresh start”…”Change is coming”…..but then how can they be considered as a “new” and “fresh start” and indeed even a “change” when they, New New Labour, intend to continue with many of the ‘old’ existing Tory policies…..are they then not really the continuation party to the Tories ?……..new bosses same as the old bosses within their UK……and what do they have to offer to Scotland other than the same as the Tory party in denying us a justified second independence Referendum.

Will some Scots buy into their spin while forgetting how they as a party let us down via a similar spin in 2014…..spin as in NOT fulfilling the promised supposed “broad shoulders of their UK” which seems, as “broad shoulders” to have sloped downward as our lives are not in any way better for having voted ‘NO’ in 2014 but evidently very very much worse…..and Labour were at the forefront of THAT campaign in Scotland in 2014 yet could not WIN the subsequent GE in 2015 to fulfil those so called ‘promises’ and ‘pledges’ OR even get the Tories, who DID win that GE in 2015, to honour the infamous “Vow” to which David Cameron was party too……indeed the only outcome for Cameron that he wanted to see fulfilled post 2014 was EVEL…..which was never noted as a pressing issue or promoted as a neglected matter in his UK during the Independence referendum in 2014.

Now is surely the time more Scots must realise that they are being played and the motivation is purely to keep Scotland in their UK…….not for a sentimental reasons but purely financial and selfish ones……we are presented as ones that are beholden to the UK for our survival , as are Wales (and NI) , which as a position, is one that is never noted as being the same for England within their UK ……….but then surely logic and sound reasoning beggars the question that….if we, Scotland and Wales (and NI) are indeed subsidised and thus perceived at times as a financial burden within their UK then is it fiscally responsible of any UK government to fight so hard and spend so much time, energy and money to keep us within their UK ?……or is that a Q the “0.08% in your ‘poll’ ” never want to ask or seek an answer to….nudge nudge wink wink…LOL

  2. Well the slogan didn’t help them much at the by-election, aside from Shanks getting a “New Start” for a year…
The vote numbers are a bit startling – Aside SNP going back to 2010 figures, the downward slide in Labour vote continues, the rise in Tory vote has collapsed, and even the LD lost badly.

The SNP being hammered will delight the media, but if there is any conclusion to be drawn from the votes cast, it is increasing disinterest in Westminster.
“New Start” will have taken on an entirely different meaning by the next GE, and it won’t be attached to Labour….

    1. It’s being seen as a massive win in England bizarrely, looking at a couple of YouTubers I follow who are left leaning and see Labour as a better alternative to the toxic Tories. More fool them, but also, they won’t bother to look at the details, like very low voter turnout.
What really riles me is the myth that England needs Scotland to oust the Tories, to save them,
it’s nothing to do with what’s best for Scotland. Scotland’s an appendage to them, to be used then tossed aside, called subsidy junkies, until the next election. No thanks.

      1. “It’s being seen as a massive win in England bizarrely” – If that’s the narrative they are being fed (eg 2 articles on the UK page from HMS James Cook) it is not in the least bizarre.
I had to go to Wikipedia to get the actual voting numbers, the media for the moment are totally blanking it to push the ‘swing’…

The ‘myth’ has long served London politics as a blame card when things go pear shaped in England, the public don’t realise Tories have been on the endangered species list in Scotland since the 1950s…

Once we are independent the same ‘myth’ will be re-targeted to the North-East, or Wales, anywhere distant from London.

  3. Without their media allies, especially the B.B.C, the unionist parties couldn’t win a raffle in Scotland. Nevertheless, this result should send a warning to the S.N.P, and yes, I’m a member, that nothing can be taken for granted, so we all have to work as hard as possible between now and the next G.E, to make sure we get a mandate for Independence.

  4. Hmm, England does not have a left wing party to represent them do they. The Tories are now extreme far right English nationalists, Labour are now right wing, basically they are new Tories. They should all rename themselves. The illusion that Labour is still left wing, having lurched to the right, is very sinister, and dangerous for us all. The fact that there is no alternative in England is due to the state controlled media. Surely people in England should be crying out for a party with policies matching SNP policies, instead they’ll take what they perceive as the least worst option to the terrible Tories. How scary is that especially if it means throwing Scotland under the bus to get there. Some of it is ignorance, some brainwashing.
I hear that tuition fees in England are going to have VAT plonked on them. Higher education is a luxury many just can’t afford there, blimey.
Some folks in England know which side their bread is buttered though, hence some flocking to Scotland, where tuition fees were scrapped by the SNP, and where they don’t pay for prescriptions, hospital parking fees, get a free bus pass at 60, (not 66 as it is in England) and the drinking water is not contaminated with sewage, etc. When Tory Mordant spouted her ‘fight’ speech she meant people should fight each other, not for human rights, nor an end to poverty, DWP cruelty, nor to ‘fight’ to end little children being starved by her extreme far right party.
I don’t know what the SNP can do to make it any more clear just what they are doing to mitigate horrendous Tory/Labour austerity on stilts, but they need some clever slogan experts, perhaps some clever art, words aren’t enough, and being too nice doesn’t work. Let’s hope they come up with something. The New SNP party? If you can’t beat em, join em?

  5. The stars were not aligned for Labour last night…..but what was aligned to see them win was the concerted effort put in by the media on their behalf, the carping from the sidelines of a certain alternate Indy party, to include it’s leader, who became the ‘darling of a media’ but who when a former FM was, not THAT long ago via that SAME media, being hung out to dry, plus a divided Indy movement, plus some vocally disgruntled specific SNP politicians, plus a prolonged Police investigation of the SNP to include what was promoted as the ‘arrest’ of the former FM and the inclusion of the blue ‘there’s been a murder’ tents and very much the obscuring from the media of the now new Labour MP, pre election , who at one point was under the protection of Dame Jackie Baillie, then we had a regurgitating Ferry soap opera and now the A9 also being promoted to a media soap opera status too.

Please check out Wikipedia for this seat and see how this time the Tory and Lib Dem vote very much collapsed in this election compared to previous elections……that said there is work to be done by the SNP before next year’s GE.

Today we will hear and read much about this being a seismic win for New New Labour…..and some may even dip their toe or perhaps their whole foot into this then being a ‘blow for independence and a positive step in support for the (non) Union’ and too a ‘resurgence for Labour in Scotland’….as that is also a familiar path we have travelled down via any previous gains in elections made via any pro UK parties in Scotland…..as in via the Baroness whose baton will now be passed onto Mr Sarwar (who himself could see himself being bestowed a title via SIR Keir Starmer in a future honours list) and who will become the new champion for the (non) Union in Scotland based on one dodgy win last night…..and thus helping to keep the Pro UK wheels turning with perhaps some Scots helping it to move along in that WRONG direction.

if New New Labour DO win the next GE then just look at what the Tories have left them…..no way will they be able to turn around the position that exists for people in their UK today to include the disaster that is Brexit……and if that is not a bitter pill for some in Scotland to swallow then I’ll be ducked if I know what is.

Looking at both the LOW turn out last night and the LOW amount of votes cast for both the Tories and the Lib Dems tis not all doom and gloom……and I do hope that this new Tory voter ID did not impact too many voters from voting…..but most of all I know there will be much gloating, wrong speculation made re this result and too a usual over egging of a Great British pudding that could ultimately collapse…..not that complacency is an appropriate reaction either BUT let’s have at least some honest reflection as to what needs to factored into what happened last night and also very much the #SNPBAD via different sources pre this By-election with the media and t’others over promoted but very predictable anti SNP input.
