‘We’re’ not one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world.

From BBC Scotland this morning

Research from the RSPB and other nature organisations say we’re now one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world.

This is a lie.

The report does say on page 3:

The UK is now one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth.

Nowhere is Scotland given that title and with good reason when you dig deeper. On the basis of a 30 minute look at a 200 plus page report:

While there are clear and disturbing reductions especially in seabirds and harbour seals (page 5), but also in plant and other species, the rest of the story is a bit different.

First invertebrate species down 13% across the UK (4)

Invertebrates in Scotland (133):

That’d be ‘up?’

Protected areas

England 11%, Wales 10%, Scotland 18%.

Condition of protected areas (65)

Forestry – areas of certified woodland

England 315 000 ha; Scotland 895 000 ha (53)

  1. “This is a lie”

Oh will this then be yet ANOTHER correction that the BBC here will need to make (hidden within their website) but only if they receive a complaint(s) upon their usual (mis)interpretation of a story, via both their website and their news programmes, that misrepresents the reality and truth of a story linked to Scotland and also any they can connect to the SNP…..and as a correction it will be missed by those Scots who still believe that the news they get via the BBC is actually the REAL news where we (they) are….but we know is really the news that they decide to produce that has their unique BBC (mis)interpretation/slant in order to add yet another attack upon the SNP as the Scottish government and/or Scotland as a country…..and thus their , SNP, competence as a government and Scotland as a functioning and well developed country is yet again berated and misrepresented .

I guess the new BBC HQ verify unit , like most other UK organisations, ignore what their branch office produces in way of ‘news’. and output…..as their , BBC Verify Unit’s, mission is the same as the BBC branch office , in what they, the BBC HQ, see as part of a ‘region’ of their UK….as in Glasgow, Scotland…..as yet another opportunity to promote #ScotlandIsSh*te and the #SNPBAD……thus fact checking via verifying the substance of a story connected to Scotland and the SNP is very much not required by the BBC Verify Unit (or their branch office in Scotland)……that’s what happens when an organisation polices itself…or rather pretends to…..LOL

  2. Today I heard Richard Holden Tory MP say that the ECHR was set up after the second War and maybe it was time to have another look at it in that case is it not time to have a look at the Acts of Union 1707 and scrap it.

  3. Not sure why it’s taken me so long! As a regular listener to the Today programme on Radio 4, this morning I finally recognised what irritates in its style of reporting the news. (It’s important to acknowledge that the BBC will regard Radio 4 and Today as broadcasting aimed at the whole of the UK – aka ‘the nation’ or ‘the country’ – and not aimed at selected areas within its ‘nations and regions’.)

The first sentence in the news report typically goes something like: ‘This bad is happening’ – no indication of where it’s happening.

The second sentence states something like: “Data from England and Wales reveals x,y,z’ – note, there is still NOT an explicit statement on whether or not the ‘bad thing’ is JUST happening in England and Wales. Are data from England and Wales JUST being used to illustrate something that is also present in Scotland and NI?

With the geographic extent of the ‘bad’ left uncertain – unless an alert listener can spot subtle clues as the report proceeds – the piece typically ends with the BBC reporting on a government response, specifically the Westminster Government – we learn, in terms that the Westminster Government is ‘taking the problem seriously, taking remedial action, devoting lots of money’.

It’s at this last stage that the geographic extent of the ‘bad’ become important as well as knowing whether the associated policy response is on a reserved or devolved matter. Typically, Today ignores such minor details!

If the devolved – and it often is – an apparent absence of a response to a ‘bad’ from the devolved government in Scotland (or NI) could be viewed negatively by voters in those areas. It certainly denies them information.

Surely the style adopted by the BBC would not be influenced by such base motives!

  4. Alas, its true.
Scotland is slowly running out of “natural” opposition MSPs/MPs, and the mejah is having to rely increasingly of renegade SNP politicos for headlines.

The Blue-Crested Toadies natural habitat is being up to their scrawny necks in merde, but as the merde levels rise, (being fed by southron discharges) they are inevitably going the way of all non-swimmers.
    Glug, glug, glug!

The Red-Breasted Toadies have in recent decades gone from living on the “high ground” to living as close to the Blue Toadies as they can get. There is speculation that cross-breeding may already have occurred, rendering differences between the species as null and void, and the rising sea of merde will wipe out the Red with the Blue.

The Yellow-Speckled Toadie is known to be parasitic in its habits and cannot survive without the Blue or Red Toadies.

If you are quick, you may just catch a glimpse of the Toadies before their demise. Such is nature!

  5. ”Nature depleted ” is just another of the ”benefits” we in Scotland get from being part of the Union – ask Gordon Brown !
The ‘Levelling Up ‘ agenda will soon have our ‘Nature’ as impoverished as the UK !

  6. One point jumped out at me from the graphics: Condition of protected areas, only Scotland is above 50% favourable, Wales is over 50% Unknown, England 25% Unknown. Scotland Unknown is so small as to be treated as negligible.
