13% more firefighters than England shouting ‘theatre’ in an empty building in Ayr

Well, they politicise baby deaths, drug deaths and police call-out failures so it’s perhaps no surprise that we see this on BBC Scotland:

Fire cuts delayed Ayr hotel blaze response, says union

Note, it’s not, as it should be:

Fire cuts ‘delayed Ayr hotel blaze response’, claims union

or:

The deployment of the high-reach appliance did not impact the outcome of this incident, which took place in a derelict building with no life risk.

which you have to read on a bit for.

Missing, of course, this to give viewers and readers some meaningful context and to let them put the report into some perspective:

In last 25 years, serious fires have reduced by more than 50% from 66 000 to 25 000.

Fatal casualties in fires have fallen by even more from around 125 to around 50.

In 2020 Scotland hd 3 636 firefighters. England had 32 171.

All things being equal, with 10 times the population, England should have 36 360 but only has 32 171. Scotland has 13% more firefighters pro rata.

  1. Alas, BBC North Brit as always, gives the Labour party enablers all the airtime they want–no questions asked, no balance just bias and slewed narrative.

I was listening to the Today prog this morning when the Rosebank oil field was being discussed.
A Scottish oil field, but not a single Scot was interviewed that I heard. A row about Scottish assets, but not one that Scots have a say in. Sounds like a colony to me.
    “United Kingdom” 2023!

    1. Another country making decisions for us. How long will it take for Scots to realise the absolute absurdity of this situation. As Cunninghame Graham said, ” It won’t be the English who stop us becoming Independent, it will be the Scots.” As true today, as it was all those years ago. Too many doubters, for a variety of so-called reasons.

      1. But as Peter Gabriel sung

“ You can blow out a candle
But you can’t blow out a fire
Once the flames begin to catch
The wind will blow it higher”

Not quite the same subject but a great lyric so true of the Scottish Independence Movement today.

    2. Indeed Gavin, I am increasingly of the view we should call them Colonists instead of Unionists as it more accurately reflects their principles

  2. I’d commented earlier on WGD on another issue with this ‘story’ when it was titled “Fire cuts delayed Ayr hotel blaze response, says union”, before it was to ‘regenerated’ via the BBC’s Tardis to “Ayr station hotel fire: Third teenager arrested over blaze”.

Yet note the set-up of the “national assets” line before deploying the old favourite “after” ploy, as in “The FBU said the incident came after 10 fire appliances and 12 high-reach vehicles were withdrawn from service due to Scottish government budget cuts”
Not UK government cuts feeding down to devolved government, but SG cuts…

Anybody else get the impression that some in Union management are being encouraged to help Labour’s electoral chances ?
