Be very afraid minimum wage earners in Rutherglen and Hamilton West – Middle Class Labour consider you less worthy of a living wage

In another of his many u-turns, to woo the right and be presented as business friendly, Sir Keir Starmer plans to introduce a variable minimum wage – with workers considered less worthy receiving only a basic amount.

See this from the leftist Skwawkbox yesterday:

The party is disguising this move as a ‘gradual return to collective bargaining’, but the ‘fair pay agreements’, applicable only in certain sectors, would be set by ‘sector bodies’, not negotiated collectively by workers themselves. This is being presented, to cosy up to employers, as a return to the ‘no-strike’ days of Tony Blair. According to Sam Coates, who was briefed by the party, this: “could mean some sectors could have a higher minimum level of pay than the minimum wage… this will not be right for many bits of the economy.”

From the comments section on the same topic, in the rightist UnHerd, on August 31, this astonishing claim that resonates with Starmerism:

Minimum wage folk are very expensive. They use public services but dont pay tax to pay for them.

  1. Plus the Labour branch office are deploying their all too familiar strategy in providing their ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ techniques to try and obscure that New New Labour HQ are a party who continuously have U turned on previous decisions and who also have also adopted many Tory policies…which as a tactic , by the Labour branch office, is one that is allowed to continue as the media here refuses to unmask the TRUTH….the whole TRUTH and NOTHING….. LIKE the TRUTH…. on what they, New New Labour, as a party represent….as in NOT what the branch office pretends they do ! (Also not, via policies, one that Scots would naturally want to either support or vote for )……if only the media here were not so economical with their version of the TRUTH and also the Labour branch office…..

  2. The above article says a lot but I would add beware all Unionist Parties as there first concern is to save the Union Scotland is irrelevant and secondary to everything.

    Below is an interesting article.

I well remember when this all came about and Tony Benn at the time was in favour of an oil fund but never happened and then we had the McCrone report since then I have never ever trusted a Unionist party in what they say.Scotland be very afraid if we don’t go independent.

      1. I quite agree with you easy to see where the monies went but its good to keep to the fore what the Unionist shower got up to.

Scotland’s oil wealth greased the wheels of Margaret Thatcher’s devastating transformation of Britain, ENGLAND is where it all went.

  3. Although it was the Blair government which introduced the minimum wage – and I applaud it for that – it introduced discrimination on the grounds of age, from the outset and a different rate for London workers compared to elsewhere. Now, ordinary working people in London were and still are financially oppressed, but I think that had the minimum wage across the whole UK been as it was in London, then this would not only have indicated that ‘provincials’ were people, too, but it would have transferred money outside of London. Since poorer people spend all their money, because they have to, it would have boosted local economies. Indeed, it might have persuaded people from moving to London and have incentivised some to move out of London.

  5. Regarding Labour and paying the workers … all you need remember is their hypocrisy over equal pay for Glasgow women Council workers .
With the active support of the GMB and the Labour Council they fought for years to prevent women workers getting equality with men , then fought it through the courts .
When the SNP Council supported the women and their compensation claims , the GMB and the Labour Party had the gall to complain that the compensation awards were not being processed quickly enough !
Labour in Glasgow and in Scotland have no shame !
