A&E median wait is 33% longer in England

Based on my own Freedom of Information request to Public Health Scotland, I can reveal that the median (middle) wait in all A&E departments in June 2023 was 131 minutes.

In England, the figure for the same month in all A&E departments was 174 minutes.

  1. Well done all those in the Scottish NHS and support services. I think that your FOI findings align very much with what a lot of us have suspected and / or experienced.

However, I suspect that this favourable comparison (and any others), will never come to light in Scotland’s “media”.

The effort that the “media” must put in to continue to distort and imply must be quite a feat. It’s just a pity for them that more and more folk just treat their written output with disdain and will no longer waste their money on shoddy goods.

As an aside, I do wonder how long supermarkets will continue to put up with wasting valuable floor space by having an area dedicated to newspapers, usually near the entrance, when they could be flogging more useful items.

  2. BBC Scotland’s business and economy Douglas Fraser has an article about Scotland’s economy from April to June.

    “Scotland’s economy: Becalmed and misunderstood”

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-66664597

“It shows the second quarter of the year saw total output – across manufacturing, production, onshore energy, construction and the public sector – dropped by 0.3%. That’s a steep drop by most standards.

The UK economy was growing by 0.2% in the same three months. It was helped up by the warm weather in June, as a cue to consumers to get out and spend, on holidays, summer clothes and hospitality.”

Saying ‘total output’ is misleading, when in the same sentence he says only ‘onshore’ energy is included.

Why does Scotland’s ‘total output’ exclude its offshore energy?

ps. The UK’s figures are boosted by the inclusion of Scotland’s offshore energy.
