Rutherglen and Hamilton West Labour candidate must surely be squirming when he sees this man campaigning for him

George Islay MacNeill Robertson, Baron Robertson of Port Ellen, above, an Islay man like Glenn Campbell of BBC Scotland, at the heart of the Empire.

Robertson campaigning last Saturday for a Modern Studies teacher who surely knows what sort of thinker he, Robertson, is:

The former secretary general of Nato has said that Scottish independence would be cataclysmic for the West in an era of international turmoil.

Speaking in the US, Lord Robertson said a “debilitating divorce” after a “Yes” vote in September would threaten the stability of the wider world.

He said he believed the US administration was worried about the possibility of Scottish independence.

The Scottish government said the comments were “crass and offensive”.

Scotland’s Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she was “shocked” by the language of the former Labour defence secretary.

Lord Roberston was speaking at the Brookings Institution where he said the US should make its views public – as should all British allies.

In a strongly-worded speech, he said: “The loudest cheers for the break-up of Britain would be from our adversaries and from our enemies.

“For the second military power in the west to shatter this year would be cataclysmic in geo-political terms.”

He went on to urge “Britain’s allies” to speak out and to say that an independent Scotland would “affect them as well”.

How does Modern Studies teacher Michael Shanks deal, with the above madness and as the Russian atrocities in Ukraine emerge, with Robertson’s enthusiasm for working with Putin:

I started to sort of reach out and engage them in so many activities that they basically couldn’t fight with us.. but after I left NATO (in Dec 2003), the American administration, the Bush administration, lost any interest basically in doing business with Russia, they saw it as a threat.. they didn’t really want to make it part of the overall partnership. I think we missed an opportunity at that time because I think it’s what he (Putin) wanted, and we could have grabbed hold of him!”

  1. OMG…..OMG…..you must be joking…..George Robertson !!!…..there is desperate but surely there is not THAT desperate to seek his participation….not so much a BIG GUN more a wee misfire surely….via NEW NEW Labour …..

I wonder what this particular Dinosaur will bring to the campaign trail….a heavy dose of #SNPBAD I suspect…..which I hope that many a discerning voter in that constituency will then view tis better that they Labour, as a party, still be extinct….in Scotland….

Robertson, a Dinosaur from the Brass-Neck-sic(k) period , whose personal charisma is so lacking that I would have thought he would have been more suited to be assigned to a ‘back room’ job in this campaign as opposed to a Front line one…..but why is he, in your above shown picture, dressed SO casually….HE a Baron or rather Barren of all self awareness and too of how his ELEVATED position in the HOL’s makes him the LAST person ordinary Scots want to see at their doors……will they, the constituents, have to BOW to him and call him by his title….or will he and that be obscured….optics and all that…

.” Hi I’m George, that’s plain old George to you, and I am canvassing for the SCOTTISH that’s the SCOTTISH Labour party candidate in the up and coming by-election….so……firstly may I just say that the SNP are BAD…and have you heard about the Ferries….that’s the SNP’s fault….and everything is bad in Scotland and that is the SNP’s fault too…so can we expect your vote for the SCOTTISH that’s the SCOTTISH Labour candidate in the by-election which was brought about by an SNP MP being just as BAD as her party the SNP who are very very BAD…if you say you will vote for us we will pick you up in my Limo to take you to the polling station…oops sorry did I say Limo…I meant me Reliant Robin…no not Robin Cook…I meant the CAR”…..

I paraphrase (or rather use my own words as to what he, Robertson, may say while out canvassing) but I do so with accuracy based on who he is , what he has done in the past and who, as a party, he is campaigning for…and him being a LABOUR LORD BARON whatever..as it seems a bit RICH (in more ways than one) for him to seek the votes from ordinary Scots for his party….though he is also known as one who doth feedeth from the trough….in the HOL….which is full of ‘I’m alright Jack and Jack(L)asses”…..so perhaps his assumed elevated status has confused him so much that he then assumes others, as in voters in Scottish constituencies, will think he is worth listening to and agreeing with…he’s NOT and most won’t….if they know what’s what and who’s who (especially if they know HIM)

When’s George Foulkes going out on the campaign trail in this constituency….or is he still considered a liability and thus not fit (in more ways than one) for direct voter contact……BRING on the LORDS….

  2. Robertson, when he was an MP, was the elected member for Hamilton. So, he will be remembered by people in the area who are middle aged and older.

So, it makes sense from a Labour perspective to have him canvass.

This does not imply that I think Robertson’s rabid antiCommunist right wing Atlanticism is anything other than objectionable.

  3. Illegal wars, financial fraud, tax evasion. Killing and maiming millions. Wasting £Trillions. Ruining the world economy. Ruining the UK economy. Iraq, Dunblane and Lockerbie kept secret for 100 years. Trident, redundant weaponry. The waste of time and space HoL.

Westminster taking Scotland revenues and resources and mismanaging them. Lining their pockets on other people’s misery. The Westminster corrupt unionists. Promoted above their capabilities. Clueless. They do not want the poison chalice. They haven’t got a policy. Or a manifesto. Just follow the Tories. Out of Office and out of time.

  4. It is highly likely that an independent Scottish state would be aligned with the English state in terms of defence.
It is highly likely that an independent Scottish state would not be aligned with the English state in terms of offence.
Presumably this is what concerns Robertson and his fellow travellers,England’s reduced ability to punch it’s way around the world.
As always,it is all about England,or more specifically the London treasury.
