Brit 9 GB 7 Scot 2

BBC Scotland’s casual British Nationalism on show this morning, above.

In the BBC Sport full text of 900 words, we do get ‘Scot’ twice but ‘Brit’ appears nine times and ‘GB’ seven times.

Kerr’s Edinburgh Athletics Club membership gets one mention but his birthplace in Edinburgh is not mentioned.

In sharp contrast, 400m runner Matthew Hudson Smith needs no ‘Brit’ in the headline and gets only 4 overall.

  1. BBC Scotland written and edited in London then presented to us by BBC Scotland lackies in Glasgow , I bet they all have a hunchy back as they skulk around stooping low enough to try and hide their traitorous broadcasts

    1. Sadly, this anti-Scotticism is produced by the Scottish Uncle Toms employed by BBC Scotland.

During the World Cycling Championships, the coverage by the BBC fronted by Claire Balding and Chris Hoy was very complimentary and respectful of Glasgow and Scotland, praising the city for its attractiveness and the Council for its organisation of the event. BBC Scotland had no input to this other than technicians and studio.

However BBC Scotland News and Current Affairs was at its petty, cavilling, damning with faint praise worst. The road race championship was headlined “More Road Closures in Glasgow” and there was a feature of a man with disabilities who claimed he was a prisoner in his flat in Yorkhill because of the road closures. A strike of Parking Attendants (which did not take place) scheduled for the championships was given publicity. Despite roads being resurfaced it publicised potholes elsewhere.

But, mostly, they just ignored the event – the first ever time all cycling disciplines world championships have been included in one omnibus event, with Scotland having been chosen because it had top quality venues for all disciplines.

  2. Very true , BBC Scotland and the English newspapers offered for sale in Scotland , reported a business in Glasgow complaining that their road had been closed off for the UCI cycling in Glasgow and that it had affected their trade ! Incredibly selfish people who refuse to see the positives for Scotland and Glasgow in particular in attracting such a huge event and as you say the first time all disciplines held in one place .
BBC Scotlands propaganda war on Scotland continues but we will get them back big time once we are independent
I hope they are saving all their pennies

  3. Speaking about anti Scottish ism, the latest from the Ferret dropped into my inbox this morning. It was all about how the SG has missed its target on tree planting this year. Last I heard we’d planted thousands of trees. I haven’t shared it yet because of its obvious negative content.

    1. Far as I know Scotland has planted far more trees than England of late.
I suspect there are huge barriers to planting enough biodiverse trees needed, in areas of Scotland that need them, due to masses of Scotland’s land having been taken by all sorts of folk many who do not even live in Scotland and use it as a playground and for wildlife murdering, wrecking the eco system.

    1. Gove could help return the Β£1.5 Billion that Jack McConnell returned to the UK Treasury as Labour in Scotland could not find a way to spend it! Hint the A9.

Well, at least Jack got a Lordship out of it.

          1. It sort of had but was it all paid in one lump sum, did it have T&C’s ie restrictions in how it to be administered and spent? The fact it was sent (‘back’ as if it was not even Scotland’s own money) to London with McConnell saying there was no need for the money in Scotland…nope, not education, health, social care, housing, infrastructure, jobs, industry investment, and certainly not useful in order to reduce drugs use in Labour’s Scotland, nothing. Despicable and unforgiveable.

  5. Oh dear, you must have hit a nerve John…
The original front page photo of Kerr in your screenshot only remains on the UK page, the HMS James Cook version now has a Union flag draped version… πŸ™„

  6. Talking of The World Cycling Championships, there was one race in the velodrome where GB were guaranteed gold in a disabled category, a Scottish boy versus an English boy in the final.
The Scot won and on his victory lap picked up a Saltire from the crowd and posed for the cameras with the outstretched Saltire behind him.
I wonder if he got his knuckles wrapped for that.
It was also great to see so many saltires on display both in the velodrome and in the road races.
