Ferries – twice the subsidies in Canada, a freeze on fares, SNP Government spending doubled, 99% on time and no lives lost

Straight from the ferry bilges, the Herald’s ferryman, Martin Williams, reports:

Island food shortage fears over CalMac freight changes

Sounds like a wee thing that could be handled locally without a fuss?

Especially when you see that the funds are there to resolve issues bigger than this:

Most striking is the level of subsidy per passenger. In Scotland, it averages £29.80 per passenger journey. In Canada (BC), it is only just over half at £16.36 and in Australia, only just over one-tenth at £3.86.

And when you see this:

A freeze on ferry fares for some of the country’s island communities has been extended, the Scottish government has announced. Ticket prices on the Northern Isles, Clyde and Hebrides ferry networks will be held at current levels from October until March 2024.

Or this:

SNP Government more than doubles spending on ferry services for islanders in just ten years

      1. Well I wouldn’t like to run a business with just 13k sales per annum, so who’s pumping in cash to keep them afloat/able to continue the propaganda?

  1. These are ‘fears’ being reported by ‘sources’. There is no evidence that the foods were left outside the freezer storage sheds or that food shortages actually occurred. So, there were no dangers to human lives. Ergo, it is a non-story …… like so much of the Scottish media output.

  2. This is called operation ‘Drip Drip Drip’…..a constant onslaught of propaganda to destroy ONE party in Scotland with the result , they hope, to then see another party (UK friendly one) to then benefit at subsequent elections….MORE voters in Scotland really need to start joining the dots as to what is REALLY going on…because the news “where we are” is not for OUR benefit but for others….as in ‘others’ who , if elected , will work NOT for us but only work for their HQ party who will govern us (dominate us) as citizens of Scotland ….from another parliament (WM) and from another country.

    1. I hope you don’t mind, but I have copied and pasted your remarks as I have not seen them written so succinctly before.

  3. Thanks for the link to the story but I’m not going to read it. The implied problem is early delivery to a cold storage unit, which the driver doesn’t have access to meaning it would have to be left outside, that implies somebody has to be there to accept delivery. Electronic access is probably already available on site, the driver just needs to be given the codes or if it’s a key, the key can easily be stored, wall mounted in a security box accessed by code. The problem might be that deliveries have to be checked and signed for which means somebody has to get out of bed, early ffs and this is the Scottish Governments fault, jeez!

  4. This is a scare story similar to the one by BBC Scotland in May this year when the week before we had torrential rain all over Scotland lasting several days and then intermittent rain day after day for weeks on end ,BBC Scotland six o’clock news lead story was , what is Scottish government doing about possible water shortages in the coming summer , here we have the idiotic Herald wanting predictions for the future as well , no doubt their scare story will be the same as BBC Scotlands , a puff of smoke rapidly disappearing with the wind.
