Labour Baroness unhappy local Scottish A&E is only 15% better than in England

Baroness or Dame or Lady Muck, I don’t know or care, has the nerve to criticise a Scottish A&E department.

In July 2023 (the latest data) NHS England’s full Type 1 A&E departments only managed 60.9% in 4 hours making the Ayrshire & Arran ones 14.9% better. Remember that 14.9% means hundreds more treated on time in Scotland and thousands more waiting too long in England.

If someone accuses you of whitabootery on this, direct them to the drug deaths reports.

  1. Indeed they, Labour, are going FULL throttle in their desperation to win seats from the SNP via what is surely seen by them as an opportunist default position as opposed to them winning via any actual merit……

The Kick a man, or in this instance party, when perceived as DOWN, sees Labour not just indulging in “Gutter politics” but in also accusing another party, SNP, of failures that they , as THE governing party in Wales , are themselves not seeing any success with….indeed are they not BEHIND Scotland in the figures on waiting times etc in the NHS…..can they never see themselves as many others see them…Nope obviously not……to win not by being the BETTER party but the one who currently has the media in Scotland behind them and who , as a party, are very good at telling us how bad other parties (SNP) are while they themselves are , via evidence, not really very good themselves as a party….something supported by actual evidence past and present….which we in Scotland are only TOO aware of…..well some of us that is….others may be more complacent perhaps….though I hope not….for ALL our sakes.

  2. Another F*cking Labour parasite who has the nerve to complain about ANYTHING in Scotland when her party ( English to its core ) wants the lower standards of England’s Health Care , Water , Transport , Crime etc … to be replicated in Scotland .
Away and work , ya bam !

  3. Aye – Diss me Kate, Baroness Clark of Kilwinning, fastest typist in a vest since becoming a list MSP despite 10 years of silence as an MP.
Having served that same constituency as MP when SG’s Labour administration didn’t have a plan, or a target, or published data more than once a year, it didn’t appear to bother her one bit at that time.
Only on being unceremoniously dumped by the electorate did targets suddenly feature in Diss me Kate’s life much as it did with the Old Baillie, painted on the backs of SNP MPs and MSPs for their temerity in replacing them under a distortion called democracy…

  4. The hypocrisy of Labour politicians in Scotland when it comes to NHS Scotland never ceases to amaze. They get away with it – and it will continue – because the news media in Scotland aggregates and amplifies the party’s statements uncritically on an almost daily basis.

On latest (June 2023) A&E waiting time performance in ‘major’ Emergency Departments in NHS Wales, the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) noted (20 July):

‘62.5% of patients in major Emergency Departments were admitted, transferred, or discharged within four-hours from arrival.

‘20% of major Emergency Department attendances waited more than eight-hours (15,269 patients). This means that one in five patients were delayed eight-hours or more at a major Emergency Department.

‘3% of major Emergency Department attendances waited more than 12-hours (8,433 patients). This means more than one in eight patients were delayed by 12-hours or more.’

On every metric and on each over a long period of time, NHS Scotland has performed better – even if not well enough for patients and stakeholders, including the Scottish Government.

An article published by Wales Online on 12 June 2023 examined the funding/ policy choices that have impacted NHS Wales over the past decade or more. It examines the parts played by both Westminster and Cardiff governments which have led to the present condition of the NHS in Wales.

Headline: ‘The Welsh NHS is on its knees and this is who put it there – a special report: Who is to blame for the problems faced by Wales’ buckling health services? The answer is complicated but spares no-one.’ – and certainly it does not ‘spare’ the Welsh Labour government!

  5. The ‘falling far short of the @ScotGov target of 95%’ comment by the Labour MSP, whilst of course strictly true, arguably reveals a contempt for the reader/voter by considering this specific charge still to be a significant one in the present context.

Who with ANY knowledge of what the NHS has been faced with across all four nations of the UK considers that failing to meet the 95% standard for four hour waits is a telling, a relevant criticism to level against one particular government in August 2023? Especially when it is being levelled against the best performing part of the NHS in the UK.

Data show that major A&E departments in NHS England have failed to meet the 95% standard since Quarter 2 2012/13 (see Nuffield Trust on A&E waiting times, 5 July, 2023). Indeed, NHS England and the Westminster Government have recently set a new ‘interim’ standard for four hour waits of 76% to be met by March 2024.

As to NHS Wales, it has not met the 95% standard for four hour waits since 2013 – putting this Labour MSP’s remark in proper context! And the Nuffield Trust notes (in ‘How well is the NHS in Wales performing?’, 9 June. 2022): ‘Patients in Wales have been more likely than their Scottish or English counterparts to wait four hours in every single month since 2012’.

One does wonder if Labour MSPs and their research support staff are aware of the significance of such relevant context and perspective – or are they just a bunch of chancers happy to misinform or mislead, secure in the knowledge that BBC Scotland, The Herald, The Scotsman, The Times, The Record … this list could go on and on … will rarely if ever call them out?

  6. Labour did not support MUP or smoking ban. Labour supported more illness and earlier death. Lower average life expectancy supported by Labour.

Labour unionists destroying the Scottish economy. Illegal wars, financial fraud and tax evasion. Spending Scottish revenues on London S/E. Keeping it secret under the Official Secrets Act and lying. Brexit losing Scotland £Billions. Scotland did not vote for it.
