Bias by omission as former Labour leader goes missing near Pacific Quay

Kezia, four years ago, when BBC Scotland knew how to get her

Try searching for ‘BBC Scotland Dugdale’ in the last 24 hours and you get the above. Not one BBC hit.

Try the same but taking out the 24hr limit:

That’s just the start of a huge list before the algorithm has to consider other news outlets.

They don’t want folk to know that a reasonably popular former Labour leader is becoming pro-independence.

Although propaganda is typically thought of as something created through tangible words or images, it can also occur via the absence of such stimuli. This chapter illustrates how such “propaganda-by-omission” can be created. The particular focus is on “topical silences,” those cases where failure to include information relevant to a certain topic can skew the recipient’s understanding of that topic in a propagandistic way.

  1. Well that is shocking as an omission by the BBC….oh sorry did I say “shocking” I meant “not surprising”….that will be her off the books as a future guest on the BBC where we are….and perhaps elsewhere too…..

  2. ” Lying by Omission ” should be their motto, a complete disgrace of a news organisation supposedly neutral for all of the country.

    1. I find it very difficult to search for anything to do with Scotland, the SNP or the SG. I sometimes think that the normal, everyday search engines are biased towards the UK and the union.

      1. They are, but not for the reason you might expect.
eg – Do you recall the bizarre interview where Boris Johnson revealed he painted fruit boxes as London buses in his basement ? The laziest git in the whole of England actually did that ?
No, the entire spiel was concocted for a reason.
Overnight Johnson’s embarrassing history over London buses vanished, replaced by this looney tunes story.

The algorithm Google uses in a search can be tricked by carefully placing trigger words in an article, then the article bombarded with the equivalent of likes which flags up popularity, thence the “likes” junkies in the media report on the inanity which then gathers momentum, further pushing what you actually wanted to find to way way down the search results.

It’s not Google to blame rather than propaganda experts manipulating what you may find…

    2. “It is the same when searching “Scotland’s trading surplus in 2021 was bigger than the rest of the UK combined”

I am not going to infer any skulduggery is afoot between the Tories and Google but in 2016 it was reported that “David Cameron had been accused of getting too close to Google amid growing anger over the government’s £130m tax deal (paying back) on a £6 billion profit – a rate of around 3%”

Just saying……and I am not sure what state of play is now in 2023 between them both via tax paid on profits made…..

In 2021 it was reported that Google paid just £50m in corporation tax last year (2020) despite posting revenues of £1.8bn….

And in 2020 it was reported that Google has saved £240million in UK taxes during it’s 2019 financial year….so once again….just sayin…..

  3. Fifa and Foulkes first post on the Herald. Posting nonsense on the website. More enlightened now. Independence support deleted or banned.

Many people have changed their minds. Especially after Brexit and the rest of the Westminster unionists poor, bad policies,

  4. Even Sky are at it .

BBc’s presenter says sorry for sharing a sexually explicit image.

No mention of the using staff in the studio audience in his programmes.
Just following standard procedures, same as the audience selection for political programmes.

    Nothing to see, move on.
