Stephen Jardine worries about about a Covid spike when schools go back, 24 hours after they went back

On BBC Scotland’s Mornings with Stephen Jardine, Dr Chris Smith, virologist at Cambridge University in South-East England (the nearest virologist to Scotland where we have none of that clever stuff ourselves), tells us that Covid infections will increase and:

The school year is gonna kick off in September and that’s a big amplifier.

Stephen Jardine makes no comment about that.

Does Jardine know that Scottish schools went back yesterday and that if that amplifies Covid infection, listeners such as head teachers might want to take precautions a bit earlier than September?

  1. Alas, this is Radio North Brit, where all guests and “experts” seem to come from south of the border.
“Here is the news, and here is someone from England to Anglesplain it to you”.

5,000,000 Scots and none of us know anything apparently.

  2. Haha what a joke Jardine and the crew of misfits at BBC Scotland are. Experts from England that can’t even be bothered to update their knowledge and get relevant details about Scotland before they open their mouth

  3. At Garscube Science Park where Glasgow University Vet School has been located for more than 100 years, there is one of the largest concentrations of virological expertise anywhere in Europe. Surely, some of them have been to dinner parties where a member of the BBC staff was present?

Scottish schools, including the private ones, return this week, but obviously Covid gestating amongst children in Scottish schools is unimportant.

  4. Anyone that wants expert discussion about viruses should check out twiv on microbe.tv

This week in virology where people discuss viruses such as covid rather than bring in someone to try and scare

  5. To be fair, not all Scottish schools started back this week – here in Aberdeenshire they start back next week.

Jardine is still an idiot though.
