The above from the National Records of Scotland in December 2022 reminds us that drug deaths, such a favourite of the opposition parties and media in Scotland, are only the tenth most common cause of death, accounting for only 1 in 50 deaths compared with more than 1 in 10 due to heart failure.
None of the other causes are commonly politicised and linked to Scottish Government performance but as new drug death statistics loom next week, media outlets are beginning to salivate.
Already an increase is being predicted though, perhaps, they may be confusing a predicted increase in the proportion caused by cocaine with an overall increase.
We’ll see.
Hopefully, we’ll also see if drug deaths have any impact on SNP poll ratings. I have my doubts.

Well with an important By-Election looming you could safely put your life savings on the BBC highlighting anything that could damage the SNP. It is just in their nature and drug deaths will be up there with the rest.

Scotland has had a problem with drugs deaths for over 40 years, going back to the heroin problem caused by the Soviet’s invasion of Afghanistan back in 1979.
Nothing that has been tried since then has done anything to reduce the problems this has caused, it’s bloody obvious that the westminster plan isn’t working, but they show no inclination to attempt a different path.
Is it that they are happy to see such a high death rate up here, as they can use that to attack us, & our government?
I find it hard to disagree with that opinion.

In amongst those high rate diseases including the number one we should add that it is smoking , alcohol , bad fatty sugary diet , that causes number 1 , 3 , 4 , 6 and 8 you know , all those things that the Westminster taxes a lot , that’s why they don’t want to eradicate them it’s an effective way to control a large number of people , disable their brain with fags booze burgers chips cakes crisps and sausage rolls

As do I….as you do tend to find that the majority of people are more inclined to be swayed by those matters which only directly impacts them ….however where the media and opposition hope that the negative publicity upon this matter WILL have an impact is on the competence of the SNP as the Scottish government…….though it has to be said that very few fair minded voters will take any notice of the Tories here in Scotland when their HQ party is hardly an example of a party one could consider competent as a government. (and if there was not such a blackout of news , via the UK media, upon the failures of Labour in Wales then they too, as a party , would also be considered ones whose competence was questionable)…
Maybe some voters in Scotland are perhaps finally seeing through the constant barrage of negativity upon the SNP and thus some may have concluded that it is , as negativity, driven by opportunism and a motivation to bring down the SNP and thus increase the chances for other political parties to gain votes…..but of course the ultimate quest is so stop independence…..however against what we are all, in Scotland , suffering as still being a part of their UK …..then that also can hardly be used as an example of something that inspires confidence and support among many Scots when we have been (over) ruled for too long by various UK governments whose competence could indeed be challenged and thus proven to be THE one(s) that are very much lacking…..as governments !

Just read this on Twitter :
“Incredible stuff from Labour*
Make a pledge at 7am. Renege on that pledge by 9pm. 14 hours…what is the point of Labour” ?
This was in reference to an article in The Scotsman online newspaper at 7.38am where Angela Raynor stated that “Scottish workers have been ‘left out in the cold’ by ministers in Scotland and the UK”
Then by 9.04pm on the same day The Financial Times reported that “Labour rows back on worker’s rights to blunt Tory anti business claims”
Oh dear….is this a case of the LEFT hand (Raynor) not doing what the RIGHT hand (Stamer) wants (or rather THEM saying and doing the opposite from each other within THE party)…..well in this instance YES it seems so…..and too also a case of accusing OTHERS of doing the very thing that you, or rather YOUR PARTY, intend to do…..hypocrites much…of course…….after all tis Labour (New New one) we are talking about…and they DO have form via many many examples we could cite on here and elsewhere…..
