Rutherglen & Hamilton West by-election – Labour leaders prefer to go private for their schooling and get the results they feel entitled to

You were poor! Nah nah!

In Labour leader, Anas Sarwar’s City of Glasgow region schools, in 2023, only 28.6% got the A pass in Higher mathematics they would need to get into subjects requiring that, at the higher status universities. That was down from the 29.6% who got an A in the 2019 exams and down from the 36.2% who got an A in the pandemic no exams assessment in 2022.

Sarwar and his parents it seems, had a solution to that kind of failure but it wasn’t the kind of solution Labour leaders used to profess – they went private. Sarwar’s old school, Hutchesons’ Grammar School reported 69% of all 5th Highers got an A grade, 77% got A’s and B’s and 92% got Advanced Higher in 2023. I’ve requested the Mathematics results and will update this post later. 91% got first choice university acceptances. https://www.hutchesons.org/latest-news/sqa-exam-results-2023/

In Labour Depute Leader, Jackie Baillie’s West Dunbartonshire schools, in 2023, only 19.7% got the A pass in Higher mathematics they would need to get into subjects requiring that, at the higher status universities. That was down from the 30.7% who got an A in the 2019 exams and down from the 41.5% who got an A in the pandemic no exams assessment of 2022.

Baillie and her parents too it seems, had a solution but again it wasn’t the kind of solution Labour leaders used to profess – they went private. Baillie’s old school, Windermere School, got such good results in A levels in 2023 that 95% of Sixth Form pupils gained access to their first-choice university and 69% went on to study at Russell Group institutions. https://www.windermereschool.co.uk/sixth-form/university-destinations/

Maybe Sir Keir Starmer has a plan to copy the private schools, that Baillie and Sarwar could parrot?

Wait till Baillie sees this. I’ll be back in the gutter again for ‘attacking the pupils!’

Like night follows day as an actuality….

Indeed PROVES the point that you, we and others make…..where the actions or rather reactions via them and their media is wearily predictable….you could even set your watch to them ……..mind you all this fuss by the Labour party in Scotland against us who support independence and too against the SNP helps to protect their pals the Tories…..as in the SAME ones, Tories via HQ , who are currently destroying pretty much everything in their UK, including in Scotland, where the HQ Labour party hope to continue the (same) work currently being done by the Tory HQ party at WM with them being the anticipated next UK government via the next UK GE….

Labour promise “Change” for us in Scotland BUT…..

Where NO “Change” will really actually happen for us in Scotland as far as the Labour party is concerned …indeed we Scots will still be ones who will be made to suffer the Tory policy that is BREXIT if Labour HQ take charge……same policy that we, in Scotland, voted to reject it in 2016 ……but then Labour have form in promising us “Change”…..and “”Change for change sake does not always result in progress.”….and let’s not forget this is the same Labour party who, in 2014, promised us significant ‘Changes’ should we vote NO to independence…..and look where we are now….not just in the same position as before but in an even worse one……seems to be that the only actual real “Change” we need in Scotland is one where we are no longer subjected to the lies and false promises of parties like the Labour party….by choosing REAL “Change” in us becoming an independent country…..

  2. You would think the voters have seen enough broken promises, back tracking and flip flopping from these parties to recognise that, if ever their head office managed to get into power in Westminster, the Scottish projects would go back to the bottom of the priorities list. The dismal mess left by 12 years of tories will take years to clear up and it will take all their attention to keep the UK afloat.

  3. Unionists out of touch. They cannot read a balance sheet or do maths. Private education not up what it is meant to be. A lot of poor unionist graduates. Ruining the economy. Oxbridge ruining the economy. Private education selective and overrated. Privilege and lies.

Scotland has one of the best education systems in the world. Life long learning. Unionists leaving out the 25% of (mature) students in the system. Left out of the equation and the statistics. Private educated people that cannot count or read a balance sheet. Dumb and dumber. Not a great advert for private education. Certainly teaches some people how to lie.

30% of students go from school. 25%? mature students. EU students 10%? and falling. Foreign students pays the full cost. 65%?+ The highest ratio in the world. Canada is next 56%. US 45%. 15 universities per 5.4million pop. The highest number in the world. Colleges and apprenticeships. The highest in the world. Requires more additional needs training. Etc. It is getting better.

Unionists councils holding education back. Employing too many untrained classroom assistants instead of teachers. To keep class sizes down. Unionists in the way of progress in every aspect of society. Trident a total waste of monies which could be spent on essential service. HS2, Brexit, etc. All a total waste of monies that could have been spent on education and essential service. Unionist destructive policies. The privately educated need to do better than that. Or lose it.

Scotland one of the first to have tertiary education. 14. Scotland ‘the land of discovery and invention’. – Chinese. Britain ‘a small island without Empire’.

Scottish invention has shaped the modern world. TV, radio, take communication – leading to the internet. Some privately educated needs better education. Out of touch and out of time. Unable to do a bit of proper research. Most try harder or lose it. Unionists minus for effort.

  4. Mature students – commence course over 21. – 24%.

EU students have dropped since Brexit 1200. Down from 2400+ down 50%.

7%. Could be affected by COVID 2021. Online studies.

  5. Private education produces some dunces. Selective. Not very bright. Not what it is cracked up to be. Might be better to save. £50,000+ and get 3/4 Highers at public education. Same number in small class sizes 5/6 year.

  6. Who on earth would join the Labour Party, especially in Scotland? Illegal wars, financial fraud and tax evasion. Limited candidate pool. It shows in every lying statement. Losing £Trillions which could have educated the world and cut poverty.
How very unionist. They have not got a clue. Ruin the world for everybody. Since 1928. Total corrupt hypocrites.

Private education get higher results. Selective. Not equal and fair comparison. 1960’ 10% of the population went to University. Now 50%+ on average go to University. Education truly supported in Scotland. University education expanded mature student. 1980s. Thatcher. To increase student numbers because of the falling birth rate. 1960’s the Pill and contraception available.

  7. Private schools do not get higher pass rates because they are better. They get higher pass rates because they are selective. If ignorant people want to waste their money on them. That is up to them. Not a fair or equal comparison

If any administration wants equality. They can ban private schools from being selective. No selection. Simple. See the pass rates go down to average.

If 24% of (mature) students are left out of the equation and statistics. It will give obviously false statistics. Not very smart or bright.

    1. I wonder if they also mark a bit exams with a bit more lenience. Also the kids get extra tuition and no doubt loads of help in run up to the exams.
Windermere school having such high pass rates, hmm, something not quite right, they can’t all be geniuses!
My home educated son had to school his private schooled friend in science subjects as he had not a clue about it.
When I first came to live in Edinburgh I taught art at a good state school in Edinburgh, lovely students, all keen to learn, but they told me no matter how well they would do, the name of the school they had attended had a negative effect on their future chances of university palces and the ttypes of jobs they could go into. I guess it was the same when I was at school in NE England, the girls were basically groomed to work at the local shirt factory, I avoided that fate, but many did not.

The UknotOk with it’s private school system is a very unequal place, and Scotland has to make sure that the BritNats are not allowed to groom students towards a future that negatively impacts their aspirations, and undermines their talents and abilities, because the BritNats care not a jot for kids who are not privileged from birth, those not born into riches on the backs of the poor, the BritNats see them as cannon fodder at best.
