In an interview yesterday of impressive wriggling and re-defining, Labour candidate for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, told a whopping great fib (above).
What’s actual evidence?
SCOTLAND would “easily fulfil the criteria for joining the European Union”, according to a leading MEP who said he would “love” to see the country become a new member state.

VP of the Green group in the European Parliament, German MEP Terry Reintke visited Scotland earlier this month to participate in discussions about Scotland’s continued cooperation with the EU. She said:
“If Scotland were to become an independent country, an accession procedure to the European Union would be much easier – as Scotland had previously applied the full acquis [EU statues book] already.”
Sylvie Bermann, one of France’s leading diplomats, and the former ambassador to the UK said that the EU would welcome the accession of an independent Scotland.
“The situation has changed because there’s been Brexit…Probably there would be some negotiation, but [Scotland joining the EU] would be good for Europe. There’s no reason why if there’s this referendum which is accepted that we shouldn’t want to have Scotland – we’ll be very happy.”
Fabian Zuleeg, chief executive of the European Policy Centre in Brussels, said “the mood on the EU side is rather positive” and suggested an independent Scotland might be able to conclude membership negotiations in “two to three years” – similar to Finland in the mid-1990s. Many leading MEPs from every corner of Europe have expressed support and said the process of accession would be smooth.

Unfortunately,the longer we are out of the EU,the more distant we become from the acquis.
England’s Tories are determined to put as much clear blue water between themselves and Europe as possible,at whatever cost.
Brexit was an ideological exercise and nothing to do with improving our welfare.
An example of their “thinking” was recently in an interview by STV of Sunak regarding the potential opening up of new oil fields in the North Sea,one of the excuses he used was that it was less damaging to the environment to produce it locally rather than have it shipped half way around the planet.
This from a PM who has just signed up to becoming a member of the Pacific trading bloc.
British Labour appear to be completely on board with this “thinking”.

But will anybody at ANY POINT via the media highlight that Shanks left (the now Pro Brexit ) Labour party BECAUSE of their position on not opposing Brexit enough…that’s the real Question…..
I see Shanks is going with the (Labour HQ) flow….churning out the same old same old rubbish as them, Labour, and too others that “no one in the EU is saying Scotland can join the EU”….against what you and others have provided as clear evidence and examples that this is a LIE. …….God not even elected yet and already he is LYING for his party and his UK….oh well that inspires confidence and hope for “Change” and a “Fresh start” via HIM if elected as a New New Labour MP…..NOT.

Scotland never voted for Brexit 60/40. Plus DKs.
EU membership supported by more than 50%. EU membership will be regained or extended in any case. LibDems in the rest of the UK. Labour will be the losers.

It was 62/38…every single constituency in Scotland voted to stay in the EU. Edinburgh 73% to stay in the EU. England’s Brexit forced into Scotland is surely the most undemocratic situation a nation could find itself in, aside a coup.

The Tories will be gone within a year. Along with the ‘policies’. Labour will not last long either. Especially in Scotland. A By election is irrelevant. Low turnout?

What a surprise a labour candidate lying! “Scottish” Labour is the biggest lie, they are just a satellite branch of the UK party who happen to be registered only in England. As you say the media are pushing this guy as the next messiah for this seat, mind you does the majority really take on board what the media says these days? Even staunch unionist colleagues despair at the damage being done to their parties by the constant bigging up by the media where they can do no wrong and the SNP can do no right – bias overload starts to have a negative effect and given the continued high poll ratings of the SNP despite the media onslaught that would appear to ring true

This appears to be further evidence to add to the blog which has caused such a stramash in the news today.
Maybe Shanks has not done a fantastic job of teaching the subject because he doesn’t actually know much about the subject in the first place.
