Just another example of Labour , via this candidate, making promises and pledges that will never be fulfilled?

‘Yes! Eat my dust, losers!

By Not-My-Real-Name yesterday:

“I’m not sure then how the Labour candidate can be presented as the kind of ambitious, energetic and demanding person, the folk of Rutherglen and Hamilton West deserve as their MP” : https://talkingupscotlandtwo.com/2023/08/10/rutherglen-labour-candidates-underperforming-modern-studies-department-does-not-encourage/

Anyone who is in opposition to the SNP will be THE ones whose prior history , where any failures and too decisions that contradict their current position, is largely ignored by the media….all because their opposition to both the SNP and independence is enough for the media to create and present a false image that does not match with who they really are based on their past and current conflicting positions.

The part of Michael Shanks history , which contradicts his current willingness to stand for New New Labour as a candidate, is the part where he formally resigned from the Labour party in 2019 because of their position in NOT seemingly opposing Brexit when they as a party were led by Jeremy Corbyn as party leader…. yet New New Labour, who he is standing for now, under Keir Starmer is embracing it, Brexit, and intending to continue with this Tory policy….so how is that now acceptable to Shanks with his former supposed strong anti Brexit stance….so much so that he felt so strongly about it that he resigned from the party….

I think that speaks volumes to his, Shanks, character or rather his lack of sincerity, integrity and too his trustworthiness as a politician…..where he has now re-joined the party he once left BECAUSE of their lack of opposition to a policy that now they, New New Labour, are promoting as one they will continue to implement…..with gusto.

So if he, Shanks, is so willing to abandon his previous strong opposition to THAT significant policy under his party…… via him now being more than willing to stand for them…. as in THE SAME party who now insist that they will , if elected as the new UK government, continue to NOT only NOT oppose Brexit but instead maintain it as a policy for their UK…..then one has to assume that those other supposed New New Labour policies (Tory ones) that he, Shanks, says he intends to oppose, if elected as MP, will most likely also be ones he will also decide to renege on too…..

Is this just another example of Labour , via this candidate, making promises and pledges that will never be fulfilled….via his supposed current opposition to the two child benefit cap, Gender ID bill etc……are voters in Rutherglen & Hamilton West then supposed to elect him as a one man band who opposes some of the policies the party that he is standing for intend to adopt and implement….surely his promoted opposition to these party policies is enough reason for voters NOT to vote for New New Labour as even their OWN candidate in this constituency thinks they are wrong !

Perhaps voters should take note and consider that voting for a supposed ‘one man band’ ( but is he REALLY) is an ineffective vote that will not see them experiencing “Change” or indeed a “Fresh start” against the might of a party who now seem , in all but party name, more Tory than some Tories….and we all know who will win in this (supposed but is it really ? ) battle……as in THE party.

Perhaps voters should vote for a party who REALLY opposes these Tory policies as opposed to voting for someone, who represents an alternate Tory party, and who may just turn out to be a ‘Wolf in Sheep’s clothing’ …..

  1. * Correction

He opposes the two child benefit cap but actually has been noted as SUPPORTING the SNP’s position on the Gender ID bill….same one Labour in Scotland supported and voted FOR but NOW, via Sarwar, are trying to distance themselves from and too where the media are omitting their, Labour’s, support/vote for it too (and also those Tories and Lib Dems at Holyrood who voted FOR it as well)……as they the media, present it as ONLY being noted as the SNP supporting and voting for it…..Starmer has U turned on his previous support for Gender ID ….well there is a surprise….NOT.

However his, Shanks, support for the Gender ID bill, can be, like other positions he ONCE had, be altered to fit in with whatever Starmer and New New Labour decide to adopt on their position re this policy…..as in CHANGE….. and thus conflict with his PREVIOUS position……rule being if it is generated via the SNP…then opposition to it is ALWAYS Labour’s instinctive small minded position to it as a policy…..and on that I am sure Mr Shanks will be only too happy to comply with THE party that he hopes he will be elected as an MP for….as in ‘those were my FORMER principles if you don’t or didn’t like them then I DO have OTHERS’…..ones that will fit in more those of New New Labour HQ….ain’t THAT the constant truth…..

  2. NMRN , I think you are being rather unfair to The new New New Labour candidate .
He is showing perfectly consistent inconsistencies in his approach to getting himself a nice little earner in Rutherglen as he adopts the same flexible position to ”promises /pledges ” as his trustworthy/untrustworthy leader Sir Kid Starver .

Having adopted the principled position of being ”all things to all men ” Sir Kid Starver has created clear blue water between his party and anything resembling a political party that could be labelled Labour/Socialist /believable . The Rutherglen candidate has obviously , and wisely , adopted the same approach to his candidature , knowing full well that the equally unprincipled Media will argue Red is Blue in his favour throughout the campaign and eschew any need to question his lack of principles .

Ha Ha…..indeed…..they are all…if nothing else…consistently inconsistent in their collective position(s) on most (all) things related to a) The SNP and b) previous positions they supposedly held……but for New New Labour well….

I do not know who is STEERING their party….but perhaps tis time someone else took the WHEEL…cause they are most definitely now regarded as a party who are not DRIVEN by principles/policies that they can stick to…..they ran out of ROAD in Scotland as we identified that they were DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE of their UK…..they now assume that they can, in Scotland, FREEWHEEL their way to election success here…..by OVERTAKING the SNP…..I do hope we Scots apply the BRAKES upon that ever happening as just look at how many U TURNS they, Labour, have done…..though I think once the SNP….. SHIFT up a GEAR they can then REVERSE any supposed (faux) resurgence via Labour and thus STALL any notion that they, Labour as a party, can ACCELERATE FORWARD within Scotland……the SNP should be working now to ensure that Labour are kept a SAFE DISTANCE from us ,the public, in Scotland…..and then they, the SNP, can take their rightful place in Scotland as in being at the FRONT of the QUEUE….with Labour (and others parties) in their rightful place too…as in STUCK in a GRIDLOCK ……not even sure if New New Labour could PASS the TEST as ones any person within Scotland could or should vote for ever again……as they are many a time prone to ignoring their many BLIND SPOTS….

      1. God I missed the most obvious one that is CAR and DRVING related….

As in they , New New Labour , also prefer taking RIGHT TURNS as opposed to LEFT TURNS…..a clear INDICATOR being their adopting Tory policies under Keir Starmer…..now that should send a strong SIGNAL out to voters here in Scotland…that they , Labour, are MIRRORING and MANEUVERING themselves into position as the New New alternate Tory party within the UK….surely !!!!

  3. Lying Labour. Same old, same old. Desperation for a candidate. Small drain pool.

Anyone taken in by the deserves all they will get. Nothing. Especially in Scotland.

    1. The image from this piece is indeed a perfect representation of Scottish labour(sic) and the candidate.
He, himself (in theory dragging labour with him),

Running up a one way street.

      THE WRONG WAY !!!!!

    1. Well we certainly cannot measure the (true) position and the (true) momentum of the Labour party in Scotland by what the media says is a “truth”…..as in them saying that, Labour , could potentially ‘win back’ Scotland…..with the media being ones who are strangers to “TRUTH”….the only uncertainty is how far they, Labour, will be willing to go (all the way I think) in them abandoning any or all of their principles, or indeed even “truth” itself, to save their UK and also with them trying to stop independence…..as that’s how they “spend their time” when tis anything Scottish related…..

  4. Seriously???

You are condemning a Labour candidate for being in a department and a school with poor-ish exam results?? No examination of why that may be so. Condemned for resigning and re-joining when you have Patrick Grady on the stump in R/glen and Cambuslang.

And, above all, in a seat were we have voted out an SNP chosen Margaret Ferrier, you would have to strive quite hard to get Michael Shanks’s sins as being equal to those of your party.

You have landed the admirable Clare Haughey in trouble too because she re-tweeted this nonsense.

The kind of Twitter-level banality that this site and Wings Ove Scotland produces does a severe dis-sevice to the Independence cause.

And I’d say the same when Labour employ similar tactics, and so would Michael Shanks.

    Grow up!

The “trouble for Clare Haughey” that you refer to was NOT via this article but via an initial article/posting on the 10th October as in “Rutherglen Labour candidates underperforming Modern Studies Dept does not encourage”…with condemnation on THAT article via a Daily Express article…..so odd that you should add your comment onto only this one as if , the condemnation is only in reference to this article….it’s NOT…..my response to that initial article was chosen as a new posting by the host of this blog….where my ‘opinion’ based on experience of Labour and too information on this candidate that I believe is accurate….NOT in any way did I note anything directly related to his role as one who taught in Rutherglen….I could say more but will not…..

Actually omit **ONLY in the above sentence as my response to the initial article, which was then chosen to be used , was via a response made by me on August 11 at 7.42am…the article Clare retweeted on the 10 August was via the initial article also dated 10 August by the owner of this site….and tis the one specified via date and title in the Daily Express….
