Humza ‘ripping up’ all citizenship laws? This is a deliberate misrepresentation

Above, the headline for BBC Scotland’s front pages section.

How does that read? What does it mean? That the FM wishes to ‘rip up’ Scotland’s existing citizenship laws? All of them? Some might think this extreme, threatening.

What did he actually say?

One, it’s not even a major headline.

Two and crucially for accurate representation, he said he would ‘rip up his British identity after separation.’

The Herald headline is inaccurate in substituting ‘UK citizenship’ for ‘British identity’, leaving out ‘after separation’ and substituting ‘separation’ for ‘independence.’

The BBC headline omits the key word ‘his’ and they cannot claim lack of space in a headline as there is clearly room for a three-letter word in that second line.

  1. Brexit ripped up EU citizenship. People in Scotland lost their rights. They did not vote for Brexit. Westminster Gov corruption. Scotland losing £Billions.

  3. I may have got this wrong but isn’t the ‘Citizen’ paper just a response to ‘How are you going to run your country on Indy’?

Isn’t it just the same as the Norhern Ireland position on passports and nationality?, you can chose to be uk or Irish or Both, the choice is yours.

On stv more time was allocated to the tory response to actually explaining what it was about.

The unionists wanted to know about passports, borders, currency and a host of other policy decisions, now they want to use it as another weapon.

As noted elsewhere, Yousaf, when did you stop beating your wife?, asnwer, I don’t beat me wife.
Daily hail headline, Yousaf denies beating his wife.

  4. There is no ”British Citizenship ” – we are British Subjects – subject to whatever shit the political London elite throw at us : illegal wars , Brexit , extravagantly expensive monarchy , state inspired poverty ….

  5. This another example – a particularly blatant one – of news manipulation in Scotland aided and abetted by the BBC.

I also spotted the BBC News headline above its free advertising of commercial newspapers. I scrolled down looking for the front-page that had the words the BBC used to headline, to frame its feature. And as the blog post reports in detail, the BBC simply, flagrantly misrepresented not only what the FM is reported elsewhere to have said but EVEN misrepresented the newspaper front pages! Now that’s taking things – and on such an important topic, citizenship – to new heights of propagandising on behalf of the Union.

This complicity in misrepresenting and gaslighting Scotland happens almost daily.

    – The BBC News website on it main Scotland page advertises the front-pages of newspapers – it’s a visually ‘attracting’ feature.

    – The newspapers – mostly owned outside Scotland – adopt editorial stances based largely on their corporate interest in who governs in Westminster plus support for the ‘Union’. They are unsurprisingly in principle against the SNP as a party and against any SNP-led Scottish Government.

    – The BBC selects from all the day’s front pages to construct a headline for its own website feature – more or less ‘honestly’ as today’s blog post demonstrates. The key point is that each day the BBC’s selection of front-pages from the above population of papers frames a prominent entry on its website’s main Scotland page.

    – Beneath each front-page the BBC often provides a 3-4 line summary of what’s in each newspaper front-page – again having an opportunity to reinforce its chosen frame.

    – And then a little later in the day one may find that a BBC journalist will have penned an article for the Scotland page of the BBC News website which is based on one of the newspapers’ (of course, typically pejorative) front-page stories.

We could then seek to track connections from the news content chosen by the newspapers categorised above to: (i) the content of BBC Scotland news programmes throughout the day on radio and TV; (ii) the subject matter of BBC Scotland phone-ins; (iii) the choices made on when to open up BBC News website articles to Have Your Say comments; (iv) the journalists that get invited on to BBC Scotland ‘news review’ type programmes etc. etc.

And of course the flip side of all the above – reinforcing the likely achievement of the intended outcome – is ‘bias by omission’.

It is remarkable – is it not – given all the foregoing that we STILL have an SNP-led government in Scotland and that c.50% of the electorate STILL favour independence!

The BBC and corporate media are doing their best to ensure that the former is damaged and that any further momentum towards an increase in the latter percentage any time soon is prevented. Each democratic event is an opportunity, a time to redouble their efforts!

  6. There is no “UK citizenship”.
We are all SUBJECTS of the Crown. Fact.
And Scotland is both subject to Westminster AND Charlie.

And as Lard Baron of Cumnocchio Georgio Ffoulksakia (English born and educated), blustering for Old Blighty claimed , “Scotland is NOT an equal country”.
    So there!

  7. If you think the BBC reports on this citizenship paper was bad then where do you place this from CH4 news on Thurs night. The report was supposed to be about the citizenship paper but that lasted all of 30 seconds which boiled down to ‘burgundy passports’ then it went off in a completely different direction –

  8. Something for next blog, The englanders are releasing hardened criminals to release cells for the new ‘Criminals’ perhaps ‘Stop Oil’.

Wonder what dross will have to say about his HQ having a soft policy on criminality.

Listened to LBC radio programme on drink driving tonight.

    Had a traffic officer on.
Asked about drink drive limits in the uk compared to elsewhere.
I thought here we go, o briefed, I was wrong.
He said Scotland’s limit is about 50% of the englander’s limit. No need to go far to find a country that has seen a good reduction in drink driving problems although it’s the young women that are getting caught all over the uk.

Asked why englanders still drink drive, he missed the ‘Soap Opera’ education programmes, all have pubs and drinking as nrmal, IMHO.
