Politico.eu today have the strangest of takes on SNP funding – ‘Only dead people donate to the Scottish National Party’ – it relies on member subscriptions and bequests left by supporters in their wills.

The seemingly healthier basis, for writer Andrew McDonald based on the thoughts of Prof James Mitchell, would be ‘big ticket donors.’

What? Like Russian oligarchs or hedge fund managers who want to turn your party, say Cons or Labour or Lib Dems, into their servants?

In the context of democratic politics, isn’t the SNP model morally superior?

Also, what would they need lots of money for? They alone have the ground troops to still put the leaflets through the doors. I’ve done it and rarely if ever saw Labour supporters, far less the others, on those streets.

Humorous extracts such as:

make little sense in a piece lauding the value of big money influence. Do the youth want to be backed by rich elites? More Prof Mitchell thinking?

  2. The problem with the Anglo American press is that they think that politics is the preserve solely of the wealthy.
    The purpose of the proletariat,in their view,is to support the wealthy and their interests so no need for them to be directly involved.
    That is what will happen if we allow Anglo politics to rule our country.

  3. Aye donations made to pro UK parties are made to ensure that the needs and wants of those who donate to those parties are given more priority and clout…. thus ensuring that , via any planned policies, only their (Donors) needs and wants are the ones that are met….

    Who dictates policy ?…well pretty much anyone who is willing to pay for it in order to get the policy and bills that matches their aspirations and ambition….and greed….

    Meanwhile in what is seen as a win win situation for some within politics….in that it helps the Pro UK parties to keep afloat in order for them to continue to con certain voters…as in voters whose own needs and wants are never met or even considered…..so that these same voters keep voting for those parties as the supposed ,but not, different (same) version of the ‘right’ (wing) party….as money talks while ‘ordinary’ people are the ones none of the Pro UK parties want to really listen to or even consider when they TELL us all what they are going to do….though in telling us they fail to expose the reasoning (or money) behind their decisions…..

    Also where and who they source that money from kinda tell you why certain decisions/policies are planned…..I mean IS IT really so inexplicable that New New Labour are now talking about involving more Private Heathcare into the NHS when some within New New Labour are being funded , via donations, by Private Healthcare companies….peeps like Starmer, Streeting and other New New Labour politicians….not rocket science is it….but tis a tad SUSPECT…is it NOT.

    I donate to, am a member of, also support and vote for the SNP as a living person….and as one STILL alive and alas STILL a citizen of their UK my wants and needs are NEVER met or considered by ANY Pro UK party….and not just because I do not donate to them but because of who and what I support…..and that will never change as far as they are concerned….second class citizens us Scots …..who they think (assume) that they are in THE position to keep saying what we are ‘allowed’ to do and when…..while also simultanously trying to con us that we are part of a family of nations (LOL) and are, as part of the UK, within a Union (also LOL)…..thank God I have the sense and knowledge as to what **** (rhymes with PIT) that truly is…..campaign and Vote for YES…to make it ALL stop….

  4. Sainsbury donated £10million to the Tories in the will. Brexiteers lied and gerrymandered. Cambridge Analytica fined. Polling companies censored and fined many times. Hedge Funds donated £millions and made £Billions.

  7. The National had an article on SNP funding last year or maybe 2021 which said that 85% of their funding came from members and members donations, didn’t say whether they were dead or not. Highly unlikely that the liblabtory party’s could get anywhere near that, particularly the the libs which has way to much cash to spend.
