‘Unelected members of the House of Lords are seeking to dictate what Scotland’s democratically elected Parliament can and can’t do’

From SNP Media this evening:

Commenting on the remarks by Baroness Neville-Rolfe in the House of Lords today – in response to George Foulkes – that the UK government is considering sanctioning the Scottish Government for work in relation to independence and reserved areas, SNP cabinet spokesperson, Kirsty Blackman MP said:

“It is deeply ironic that unelected members of the House of Lords are seeking to dictate what Scotland’s democratically elected Parliament can and can’t do.

“It’s also very clear that the process of trying to stymie the Scottish Parliament is being driven by Tory ministers, egged on by a Labour peer, not civil servants.

“The 2021 Scottish Parliament election saw a majority of MSPs elected on a pro-independence platform, and these attempts to stop the Scottish Government from promoting the benefits of Scotland becoming an independent country destroy the very notion of the UK as a consensual arrangement.”

  1. Labour shooting themselves in the foot again.
Making it entirely clear that no matter what Scots democratically vote, for they will veto it when it suits their purposes.
Scots have no say about what happens in Scotland so long as we are ruled from London.
Has been that way since 1707 but is only now being made crystal clear by the Anglo state.

  3. How convenient.

Sanctioning the Scottish Government would make the recommendations in the Labour Party’s ‘Commission on the UK’s Future’ (which a future Labour Government are committed to bringing in) a reasonable compromise.

  5. It really highlights Scottish Labours Shame all rolled up into one corpulent carcase.

An unelected oaf whose only goal is a good meal and a snifter at the HOL, wakes up long enough to try and disrupt the work of the Scottish Government.

Just as well I am holding back.. 🙂

  6. Labour politicians past their sell by date do not get put out to pasture, metaphorically speaking, (but they should) and instead they get put into the HOL….to continue the bad work they once did in the HOC….Foulkes being a prime, but not unique, example….
