Roads – The same Labour weakness in London can become a strength against ‘anti-motorist’ SNP in Scotland?

In the Herald today:

THE SNP should take the Conservative victory in Uxbridge and Ruislip as a “warning sign” over the Scottish Government’s “anti-motorist” policies, a senior party figure has warned.

https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/23672719.tory-victory-uxbridge-warning-sign-anti-motorist-snp/

Fergus Ewing? Senior in one sense I suppose.

Anyhow, let me get this right. Labour in Uxbridge/London were held back by Labour support for ultralow emission zones but in Glasgow/Scotland, Labour can be a threat to the SNP because of the same thing?

So, is this like the two child gap issue where Labour in Scotland can be presented in the media as holding quite a different position from a UK Labour key position?

I’m sure with help from the Herald and the BBC Scotland, they’ll have a go. Watch out for it.

Any alternative reports of SNP vs Labour on roads?

Here’s one:

Forth and Endrick SNP Councillor, Graham Lambie, has slammed the ruling Tory/Labour Administration on Stirling Council for not delivering on promises made to maintain Stirling’s roads.

A recent Audit Scotland report has put the Stirling area in seventh worst place out of the whole of Scotland – a significant decrease since 2012 when the Tory/Labour coalition was formed.

I feel sure the researchers at Pacific Quay could but won’t find others.

  1. London S/E congested chaos. Scottish funds and resources used to support London S/E congestion. The congestion ruins the London economy. Vehicles not going anywhere. Stagnation. Scotland depopulated by Westminster economic policies. Years of underfunding in Scotland. Scottish revenues and resources used secretly and illegally to fund London S/E. Canary Wharf and Tilbury Docks etc. Now HS2, Hickley Point and Trident. £Billions wasted.

Thatcher centralised transport through London. Thatcher took Scottish resources and revenues to fund London S/E. To fund the Bankers who fund the Tory Party.

Increased support in Scotland for the SNP and Independence. The Tories will be voted out, especially in Scotland. The Masonics in Glasgow vote Labour. Racist, bigoted, misogynist and unequal. Marches are not banned in Glasgow. Banned all over Scotland.

People who support Independence need to go out and vote for it. A higher turnout. Westminster mismanagement has ruined the economy. Labour are no better. Devolution protect Scotland but Independence will change the economy for the better. People need to go out and vote for it. A higher turnout.

  2. “I’m sure with help from the Herald and the BBC Scotland, they’ll have a go. Watch out for it.”

The Herald gave it a go in May.

The European Ambient Air Quality Directive set a limit for Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) of 40 micrograms per cubic metre.

Scotland met the target in 2022.

    The Herald asked –

    https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/23549119.glasgow-air-quality-meets-targets-lez-scrapped/

“Glasgow air quality meets targets. Should LEZ be scrapped?”

    The same article it reported-

“The World Health Organisation’s air quality guideline for nitrogen dioxide is 10 µg/m3 – with 40 µg/m3 envisioned as such an “interim target” to help countries move in the right direction.”

“As part of its Green New Deal, the European Union recently announced it was pushing to drop its targets to 20 µg/m3.”

So new targets will be on the way.

    Nice try but no cigar.

  3. Don’t you just love the “senior party figure” mask of anonymity, with “could” doing all the heavy lifting – Uxbridge is ca 400 miles distant from Glasgow, but in political and environmental outlook, they aren’t even on the same planet.

  4. Shrodingers Labour party are certainly fooling some of the sheeple in England, hopefully fooling fewer people in Scotland. Turn out at their by-elections was low, voter ID? Or just indifference and despair? I guess if you have two parties, well three if you include the Libdems, all with the same backward, destructive, intent on starving little children and laughing about it, policies, you might as well just stay at home when there’s an election of any sort.

It’s quite funny that Labour are claiming victory when they basically failed to gain two seats when their country, England, is in such a mess. That’s quite an achievement really, well done Labour! I guess they believe if they brainwash people in Scotland enough via the dodgy EngGov controlled media & their moguls, they will be be victorious in Scotland at the GE. I have met at least one young guy who said ‘we must vote Labour next GE’ who lives in Scotland but is Irish. I didn’t have time to discuss much but said that Labour’s legacy in Scotland is atrocious, he was quite shocked.

I met a woman last week who was it turned out staying at an air B&B near us, lives in Australia but she is from Aberdeen. I said ah, oil rich city, her response,
‘I don’t know who benefits’. She commented how it looks bad economically here, with shops closing down etc, and how poor people are suffering. I was going to post a ‘Scotland the Brief’ book through their door, but they’d gone by next day, damn. So I am guessing her mum who must be quite old, has no idea ‘who benefits’ from the oil in Aberdeen and Scotland. Sigh.

I am hoping that the SNP remind people and inform new people to Scotland, of Labour’s terrible legacy in Scotland, ten years at Holyrood, appalling, sending £billions back to WM, and plunging Scots councils into £billions of debt with their PFI scams. They do same again and much much worse if they ever get near levers of powers in Scotland, (a terrifying thought) they are an English party, and they dance to the tune of their English masters, who would sell Scotland off lock stock and barrel, if it meant they could keep thieving Scotland’s massive resources and revenues. People need reminding just exactly who was at the helm before devolution in Scotland, and it was never an actual Scottish political party, this country was always ruled from England and by England, well since 1707 at least.

‘Charter cities’, ‘freeports’ it’s all coming to Scotland unless independence is secured pronto.

  5. Noticed some roads around us in Edinburgh, over used by heavy traffic maybe due to the Tory/Labour councils obsession with roadworks (roadblocks) so unexplained diversions via our area to get to the big road and bridges heading north, are in a terrible state, in fact I’d say with buses and trucks using them, some are dangerously neglected. There was a really bad water leak at one junction some months back, Scottish Water fixed that quickly (I did my good cotizen job of informing them) but it has left the road in a bad state. Tory/Labour council? Nope, they had barriers up last week, no idea why, on the other side of the road I think I took photos as I usually try to do on my wee camera, but no road repairs at a busy junction carrying delivery trucks, and buses and in fact ambulances from and to the city. I think it’s no accident it has not been repaired, I must take more photos of it later.
Graffiti, rubbish strewn streets, some neighbours noticed a family dumping loads of packaging onto our street a few meters from the bins, other day I picked it up as I usually do these days, I wish I’d seen the folk doing that!
Edinburgh certainly in and around our part, a bit touristy, is a total mess now. It’s sad to see, and I am beginning to think it’s quite deliberate. Trash Scotland’s capital city to show it up as cr*p, dirty, poor, neglected, and just rubbich really. Let’s see how the festival pans out this year, and whether the Tory/Labour council leave it in a worse mess.

I wonder which councillors will be ignoring the trashing of the city, because if SNP were at helm at CEC, we would definitely have tons of leaflets through our doors slagging them off for trashing the city. You can tell it’s bugging me can’t you, and in the grand scheme it’s minor, but, I get the feeling that over the past year, since Labour/Tories took power at the CEC, there is either deliberate neglect and/or they are spending council money on something else, or hoarding it, I don’t know what, would like to see the next council coffers audit though…sorry end of rant. Oh and Labour/Tories cancelled city allotments that SNP had secured the site, much needed due to a huge waitiing list, it will be developed into expenisve flats, guarenteed. I wonder who gets the contracts..hmm.
