Feminist charity did not criticise Humza at all

On 20 March 2023, in the Scotsman:

“I have made clear my belief Scotland’s government should look as much as possible like the people we represent. As well as being the first ever First Minister from a minority ethnic background, I am pleased that a record number of women have agreed to serve, as well as a significant blend of younger and more experienced members. That said, every single appointment has been made on merit.”

and

Jackie Baillie, the deputy leader of Scottish Labour, said Mr Yousaf had assembled a bunch of “B rate politicians”.

Nar mirrors in her hoose then?

Today under a photo of that majority women cabinet, the Herald suggests that Humza has somehow failed women.

Remind me, who controlled the choice of his cabinet members? That’s right, Humza.

And, who controlled the choice of the 5 women and 9 men special advisors? That’s right, not Humza, those cabinet members, mostly women.

Who are the ‘charity group’, Engender? 19 women in a think tank, not representative in any democratic sense, of women.

Are there any other women’s groups in Scotland. Quite a few. Have any of them blamed Humza for something his cabinet, mostly women, has done? Can’t see anything.

Finally the actual report – any mention of Humza Yousaf? Not one.

Any mention of the First Minister? Just this:

In April 2023, following the change in political leadership in Scotland, the First Minister appointed the first Scottish Cabinet that is over 50% women. This demonstrates ongoing commitment to gender equality at the top of government, building on successive gender-balanced cabinets since 2014.

Did the other parties get any criticism? Yes, this:

Meanwhile, the number of women leading Scottish political parties has dropped substantially over recent years. In 2017, four of the five political parties represented in the Scottish Parliament were led or co-led by women. Now the co-leader of the Scottish Greens, secured by gender balancing mechanisms within the party, is the only woman represented at this level in Scotland.

Is Jackie Baillie not a woman?

So, another non-story from the Herald?

  1. I think the idea is that women would get more interested in politics if there are more women MPs , I see no evidence of that , women are just not as interested in politics full stop but that doesn’t mean they are not interested in equality , fairness , NHS , education and housing etc , they are just as interested in these as men but motherhood is undoubtedly a barrier because being a politician means being away from home a lot and that does not fit in with being a politician.
If only we could find a way to have politicians who work from home , anyone got any ideas.

  2. There are more women than men in the Cabinet. Doing well. Pity they did not include Kate Forbes and Ivan McKee.
