Homeless in under Tories expected to surge to twice that under SNP

Thanks to Dottie’s Phone for giving me a call on this.

In the Guardian today:

Michael Gove’s department is handing back £1.9bn to the Treasury originally meant to tackle England’s housing crisis after struggling to find projects to spend it on….Analysis by the consultancy Lichfields has found new housebuilding is expected to drop to its lowest level in decades, while 580,000 extra people are likely to find themselves homeless, “sofa surfing” in the homes of friends or family.

According to BBC Scotland, on 31 January 2023, there are 28 944 homeless in Scotland, ‘the highest level on record‘ : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-64464412

Based on this, all things being equal (funny I know), with 10 times the population, England might be expected to have around 290 000 homeless but is predicted to have double that.

To avoid being accused of hyperbole, I’ve ignored the fact that the 580 000 projection is ‘extra.’

  1. Ah, but this is ‘whataboutery’. And, to BBC Scotland that invalidates it as a counter argument. However, if it had been heard as gossip at a dinner party it would be valid.

  2. Conservative government policy is to have the very minimum of government with no housing investment no NHS investment no education investment all essentials in life to be privatised but as we know already their policies are disastrous and do not work , universities are millions in debt , the NHS in England in is a desperate state, house building is coming to a halt because nobody can afford to pay the inflated prices.
Privatised Railways have nine different parts ran by nine different companies , none of them provide a good service or meet basic standards , privatised Water and Sewerage companies are mostly providing sewage to rivers ponds , the sea and anywhere else these private companies can hide it, the privatised Royal Mail is bankrupt the electric and gas companies are all owned by people who do not live in U.K. , on and on and on the disaster goes and now that the right wingers of the Conservative Party have infiltrated the Labour Party it is desperate times ahead promised.
