Tories’ favourite doctor back again to reveal 97% not afraid to speak up about patient safety

Only another cosy Reporting Scotland/Herald feed headlined this morning, not reported anywhere else in the MSM, Dr Iain Kennedy, leader of the doctors’ union the BMA:

48% say they are afraid to speak up.

We’ve been here before so many times with trade union surveys based on tiny, self-selecting, samples, utterly unreliable, but not challenged by journalists.

There are around 9 700 GPs and hospital consultants in Scotland.

The Herald, laughably, write that the survey ‘examined 592 doctors.’

Examined? I think not. They sent an email to the above 9 700 and perhaps even to the junior doctors.

Only 592 responded, 6.1%.

48% of those said they were afraid to raise concerns, 2.9%.

In the absence of responses, we cannot say the other 97.1% are not afraid to report but neither can we on the basis of a self-selecting, small sample, say they are afraid.

Dr Kennedy, not really a ‘senior medical figure’, a trade union convenor, is a regular and, in social media, disturbing. See this:

      1. Hi John

Many thanks for your speedy response. My response to the information you provided is that it does not reflect the reality of on the ground events. I am puzzled as to why the wait for an ambulance does not appear to resonate with those who have the power to do something about it. I am sure folk in Scotland have died who might not have, while waiting for an ambulance .

The struggle for some understanding and compassion for those folk waiting hours for an ambulance continues. Best regards Alice

  2. Ambulances were held up by Covid. Precautions or more people would have died of Covid. Only 1 in 10 survive a heart attack. Get medical help as soon as possible.

Humza promising Doctors an offer they cannot refuse. Nurses have settled.

Westminster increasing military spending £5Billion. Instead of increasing NHS funding. Killing people rather than saving them.
