Scotland’s road casualties fall by 47% in 20 years and motorcyclist deaths fall by 20% in 1 year

The Record’s statistics person (14) has added up the motorcycle accident data over 10 years to get a number big enough to talk about, by their abysmal standards of course.

25 motorcyclists died in 2022, 5 fewer than the previous year.

Looking at the more useful trend data, overall motorcyclist casualty data on Scotland’s roads increased by 2% in 2022 but overall road casualties have fallen by 47% since 2000.

  1. Motorcycle data should also consider the trends in motorcycle ownership. Usually road accident data for vehicles are based on the numbers of vehicles and distances travelled.

  2. “The Record’s statistics person (14) has added up the motorcycle accident data over 10 years to get a number big enough to talk about, by their abysmal standards of course” – Have they ?

The “pothole” angle enters on the 1st paragraph.
The “crumbling” angle enters on the 2nd paragraph.
The “biker” only enters in the 3rd paragraph complete with the staged photo of “victim” complete with remains of damage to the right side of his knee and damaged left hand fingers, aluminium walking aid, and the helmet which probably saved his life and theatrically supressed smile…

Sally Hind’s construct of “Killer Roads” befits her status as “Deputy Chief Reporter at the Daily Record”, since her chosen portrait appears both alive and theatrically grumpy given he did something extremely stupid and survived.
eg – I know every pothole on the usual journey in my car, a habit I developed as a motorcyclist many moons ago.
So what distracted Mr Smiley will remain a mystery for the sake of an “EXCLUSIVE INVESTIGATION” in bold red to compete with the Scum, the Snail, etc…

Mr Smiley’s HIND-sight is probably more realistic than Sally’s, but he probably enjoyed it more….

The stats for accidents are unlikely to break down to potholes as PS report any they consider dangerous to Highways Scotland as a matter of course which actions immediate repair.
“SCOTLAND’S KILLER HEADLINES” I sincerely hope to see documented and honoured in a future McRaspberries, but the QEUH ninja incontinent AC killer pigeons from the BBC in Scotland is going to be hard act to beat for sheer nerve…
