Calls for SNP to stand in Newcastle against local Labour Party there

Both the ‘Labour Party’ a Newcastle-based political group and the Edinburgh-based SNP have been accredited to campaign in Rutherglen and Hamilton West, for the recall of former SNP MP and minor offender, already punished, Margaret Ferrier.

If Ferrier is recalled by 10% of her constituents, it’s expected that both will also campaign in the subsequent by-election.

It is of course not impossible that too many of the folk in the area will feel they just can’t be arsed and Ferrier will continue as the MP. I’d be entertained by that outcome.

The presence of a Newcastle-based party in this Scottish constituency election has led to some activists to call for a counter-campaign in Newcastle, by the SNP.

Professor John Robertson, born in Berwickshire, only 10 miles from the border, has denied interest, pleading sair knees.

  1. The London Branch of the SNP did think about putting up Gerry Fisher (then Convenor of the branch) against Thatcher in Finchley at the 1983 General Election but decided against it in the end.

  2. Just no. As an ex Geordie, all of my family and friends there were so anti SNP and independence in 2014, they laughed at Scotland and ridiculed me. Scotland owes NE England no favours. Let’s keep it simple until after independence, standing SNP candidates in England would just muddy the waters.
    Definitely a bad idea, imo.

    1. I agree. If the SNP has difficulty persuading voters in Scotland, they would have even less chance south of the border in constituencies already loyal to labour.

  3. This is a ruse which would have been a laugh when Sturgeon was riding as high in England as in Scotland.
This is no longer the case, and the SNP NEED to start fighting for Scottish votes, not those in a different country.

Suggested lines to biased journalists (that would be them all)………

“Why is there no police inquiry into the £billions lost to fraud by Sunak as Chancellor”?
“Why were Johnson and Sunak not suspended by the Tory party when interviewed and fined by the police”?
“Why is Damian Green not prefixed as the “disgraced” XXXX when described on the BEEB? Why is he on the BEEB on a daily/weekly basis, given his previous conduct”?
“Why….then name all the disastrous procurement programs by the English government……stats for education, NHS, poverty….etc”!

    and so on…………………………
