Sturgeon’s ‘vital’ legacy policies could take nearly a million English children out of poverty but Reporting Scotland Down say….

It is estimated that 90,000 fewer children will live in relative and absolute poverty this year as a result of Scottish Government policies. The Scottish Government analysis is published alongside the first annual report on its Tackling Child Poverty Delivery Plan ‘Best Start, Bright Futures’.

The report sets out progress made on the four year plan, including that an estimated £3.03 billion was invested across a range of programmes targeted at low income households in 2022-23, with £1.25 billion directly benefiting children.

The report also details key actions to help households and address the three main drivers of poverty – income from employment, cost of living and income from social security and benefits. These include almost £83 million to help deliver employability support, introducing a rent cap to help protect tenants during the cost of living crisis and providing over £84 million to support housing costs, while increasing the Scottish Child Payment by 150% and expanding it to all eligible children under 16.

90 000 Scots children taken out of poverty so, pro rata, if the SNP ran Westminster, 900 000 English bairns taken out of poverty?

The above is from the Scottish Government yesterday but today Reporting Scotland Down has a different tack:

Charity One Parent Families Scotland (OPFS) is leading a growing campaign to top up Universal Credit payments for young parents. Satwat Rehman, the chief executive of OPFS, says she is calling for action at Scottish government level as well as at Westminster level. The charity says the UK government should reverse the current policy and pay under-25s the same rate of benefits as over-25s. The group also wants the Scottish government to top up the Scottish Child Payment to balance benefits for all.

Not a word of praise for what the SNP in government has actually done! Satwat went to Uni in Manchester.

Even the Times lets the facts in now and then:

  1. Reporting Scotland last night underreported the number of children who would be taken out of poverty then went big on how the SG would miss its target according to some charity/NGO boss or other. They always find/manufacture a ‘but’ of some description.

  2. A recent study showed people round the world were switching off negative news. On average only 48% of people watched it.
43% in the UK, and this has consequences for the BBC.

How many Scots now watch Repressing Scotland, the North Brit BEEB “flagship” news and agitprop show?

It MUST be the most negative, State propaganda program anywhere in the democratic western world.

Juan and Glenn–the Francie and Josie of “journalism”!

    1. STV news is doing its best to catch up on the BBC Scotland Negativity Stakes – they invariably have an SNPBaaad story at the start , one in the middle and probably blame the SNP for the weather ( good or bad ! ).
