First – many thanks to all the contributors especially but not only stewartb, who have made Talking-up Scotland the top political blog in Sc….OK, Ayr.
Ayr man follows Sir Sean Connery and Alex Salmond in winning OBA!
Last Saturday in Perth, Ayr man, Professor John Robertson was presented with the Oliver Brown Award by the board of the Scots Independent newspaper.
The award goes to a journalist, author, critic, illustrator, radio or television performer who, in the opinion of the judges, has done most in the preceding year to advance the cause of Scotland’s self-respect.
Previous recipients include Mary Marquis in 1986, Jimmie MacGregor in 1988, Jimmy Reid in 2003, Sir Sean Connery in 2012, Alex Salmond in 2014 and Elaine C Smith in 2016.
Oliver Brown (1903 – 1976), a teacher in Glasgow, was the first Scottish National Party candidate to save his deposit in a Parliamentary election in 1930.
Robertson said: ‘The same award as Sean Connery? At last, my mum will be impressed.’

Footnote: Yes Mhairi Black might think me a wee bit pished.

Absolutely delighted that your hard work is being recognised.
I don’t know how you do it but please don’t stop 😁

Well deserved John, it is good to be recognised for the work you have done and continue to do even as an OAP.
It must be frustrating at times battling against goliaths such as MSM in Scotland with little obvious traction, but the message is getting through even if it doesn’t reflect in the site numbers.
As to “Yes Mhairi Black might think me a wee bit pished”, you can rest assured she’d be refilling your glass until she got a glower from your other half or they had to call the ambulance 😉
As to the Connery reference, tennish ish much overrated…

Well done John, it also a recognition for creating the best political blog in Scotland.
Thanks to all the contributors for their many interesting articles.
I also noticed Reporting Scotland won an award from the Royal Television Society Scotland for ‘News’ (alternatively known as Talking Down Scotland) this week.
Presumably due to its diminishing viewing figures? 😉
ps. I enjoyed your speech. 🥂
pps. In secondary school, I received six guineas for two days work as an extra on….

Weel done.
Honour among contemporaries. An elite feat. Looks like a grand accolade in fine company. A bit of recognition goes a long way. More strength to your determination. More power to the pen.
Very well deserved calculations and statistics. Missing from MSM and their associates. MSM regurgitated, taken apart and to task. Showing how it is done. A correct journalistic record.
