From January to July 2022, there were 24 145.*
All things being equal, with 10 times the population, NHS England should have had around 250 000 waits of more than 12 hours but it had almost 700 000, approaching 3 times as many.
*Not having the data for week-ending 31 July 2022, I’ve added the weekly average for July to the figure.

At least this explains McArdle’s bizarre Herald headline story, and the equally preposterous piece from the BBC in Scotland “Delays to network of NHS Scotland’s treatment centres”.
London “management” must have gotten wind the leak was going to be published and instructed diversionary stories for Scots.
