Sturgeon seen smiling as ScotRail restores timetable

Readers will remember that ‘Sturgeon’ was the MSM’s preferred face of the rail strikes as they sought to associate her with the passenger complaints:

The First Minister was, of course, never in the room with the owners or the unions but, hey, anything bad that happens in Scotland requires her face, preferable scowling.

So, presumably, she must, logically, be the face of the restoration of services and happy passengers?

From ScotRail today:

I am pleased to confirm that we will be able to restore our timetable to May 2022 levels from Wednesday, 20 July, after members of the drivers’ union ASLEF voted to accept the improved pay offer.

Newsworthy?

Here’s Scotland’s MSM today, informing the public (not):

BBC Scotland?

Know anyone taking the train today?

  1. I wonder how well this works any more. There are so many of us well aware of this type of image manipulation (maybe not the right phrase) and the personalisation of politics. I think even those who don’t automatically query why this picture is being used, or why this headline has nothing to do with what actually happened, get put off by the relentless negativity and switch off or stop reading.

It’s part of the reason I like your site as we get positive facts and figures we don’t see elsewhere. I think the SNP as an organisation is also pretty good at putting out positive messages wherever they can. Twitter sniping is pretty tedious after a while, but hearing what we do well and reading thoughtful posts/messages about issues rather than personalities makes me feel proud to be living in Scotland

  2. I was on a train today. It was punctual, completed the journey within the allotted time and was informed of every stop.

Good Morning Scotland emphasised that Scotland WILL be hit by more rail disruption because of LNER and Cross Country, who run only a small percentage of trains in Scotland. It mentioned that ScotRail had settled the dispute with ASLEF, then there was the “ah, but….” RMT is striking. On the day before Mick Lynch of RMT pointed out that RMT had to negotiate with a number of companies, including ScotRail, but, that unlike other companies ScotRail had awarded RMT members a rise last year, whereas other companies had given no pay rise for 4 years.

    1. Did you hear mick lynch on radio Scotland this afternoon? The presenter (Connor somebody) obviously fancied himself as the one who would tackle mick firmly and have the upper hand but mick kept the head and ran rings round him. Mick also making it clear that Scotland had negotiated and agreed a deal unlike Westminster. Plain speakers finally getting the attention they deserve

  4. Scotland pays £Billions to HS2 and projects in the south. A total waste of public monies with no business case or enough passengers. Always to be subsidised.

The monies would be better spent on the railways and other projects in Scotland. More worthwhile and productive to support growth and the economy in the North. Railway journeys take twice as long in Scotland as in the south, as a result. Historical lack of investment. More conductivity would improve the economy and aid growth.

Nicola is smiling once again being instrumental in aiding the recovery and the economy. More than often getting it right. Everyone can notice it. Even those on the right, who are more than often wrong. Westminster shambles and catastrophe. A complete and utter, colossal, unionist mess. A public disgrace of magnitude chaos. A total embarrassment.
