New South African variant may be more vulnerable to the cancelled Livingston Valneva vaccine

According to English Health Secretary, Savid Javid, this morning, the new B11529 variant, identified only 3 days ago in South Africa, has twice the number of mutations as the Delta variant and may be more resistant to the existing vaccines.

Notably, we hear that the new variant has around 30 changes to the spike protein which the virus uses to break into human cells making it dramatically different from the Wuhan strain on which all current vaccines are based.

Well, not entirely and significantly.

The French Valneva vaccine, developed in Livingston in Scotland, and then a contract for it cancelled by the UK Government, in September, ‘for commercial reasons’, does not simply target the protein spike:

Rather than induce an immune response that targets just the spike protein of the coronavirus, the Valneva vaccine, also known as VLA2001, stimulates an immune response to the entire virus, and that might just give it an edge over its competitors.

It is different in that it uses the tried and tested method of taking the whole of the coronavirus and inactivating it so that it can no longer cause illness. It then combines with an adjuvant, a substance that helps it enter human cells effectively.

similar technique is used to make flu and polio vaccines. The idea is that by introducing a whole coronavirus into the human body, albeit one which has been inactivated and cannot cause illness, the immune system will recognise the whole virus as foreign and not just the spike proteins. This will give a much broader immune response and increase the memory cells that can recognise different parts of the virus should the vaccinated individual become infected with the real coronavirus.

The company say the advantage to this is that should any mutations arise on the spike protein that render it unrecognisable to the vaccine, the Valneva-induced immune response is broad enough to be able to recognise other parts of the virus so the immune reaction will still be effective.

Is this another clumsy, adolescent, Johnson move which may now come back to bite us all?

  1. I hope Valneva is the one vaxx fits all variants answer.

Valneva expects to deliver 24.3 million doses during the second and third quarters of 2022.

Vax companies have not tweaked their product for delta.
We could be on our way to elimination if they had.
Covid seems to be a cash cow.

China’s inactivated vaccines effective against Delta variant: study

Led by reputed Chinese epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan, researchers from the Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that two shots of the vaccines provided an efficacy of 59 percent against COVID-19 caused by the Delta variant, 70.2 percent against moderate form of the disease, and 100 percent against severe cases.

Meanwhile, with an efficacy of 13.8 percent, single-dose vaccination did not provide sufficient protection.

  3. Well Well Well
For commercial reasons and in main due to a surge in take up of provisional orders
    Mainly by The E.U.
Regretfully we are unable to even consider entering discussions with the UK Government concerning vaccine supply for at least 18 months
    Yours CEO
    Valneva.

  4. As my Father used to say if you want to find out who will win do not listen to those so called experts who comment on the telly and papers, because they are are Idiots

      Good
So let us all watch this space and in the event that it is proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the efficacy of the
Current UK approved vaccines prove to be
Greatly compromised , but Valneva most effective
And given the fact that Javid,s weasel words on the Scottish/ French Valneva
Vaccine will prove to be disastrous for purely nefarious intent
Then as far we are concerned the order of the day has to be
” Load and fire all guns, shoot at will”
And SHNS must break ranks and order from Valneva

  5. 30 number variations to the spike protein
    Is very significant indeed
And may just be able to confuse the Current approved UK vaccines by a considerable %
If so it is very mush a slide down the snake ( Bojo & Javid ) after a most arduous climb up the ladder
Ah but such is par for the course of Tory and Unionist actions & modus operandii
