BBC Scotland misses another difference making this a better place after 12 years of SNP rule
No Scottish MSM have reported the story
It’s been some time since I’ve talked-up Scotland as a place, by no means perfect, but one which is drifting away from the brutal form of society which the Conservatives and Unionists seem to prefer.
See this from Contact: For families with disabled children on 10th August:
From September 2020, new rules in Scotland only mean that young people will continue to receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA) until they turn 18. Currently DLA claimants are invited to claim Personal Independence Payment (PIP) shortly after they turn 16. This is part of a wider change to benefits in Scotland. Over the next few years, Social Security Scotland will take on responsibility for an increasing number of new Scottish benefits. This includes a new benefit called the Child Disability Payment, which will replace DLA in Scotland, and a new benefit called Disability Assistance for adults will replace PIP.

Yes …..but apart from Scotland being kinder , more compassionate towards immigrants , less violent , more understanding of those with disabilities , more tolerant of minorities , more supportive of the disabled , more caring towards asylum seekers , less hostile towards those who are poor , less racially divided , fairer towards those on low incomes , a safer place for women from domestic abuse …… apart from these , what makes Scotland a better place than England ?
The “broad shoulders” of the Yookay turn out to be a deep recessionary pit of economic gloom (the worst in the EU) , despondency and where desperate migrants are hunted down by the military, hounded by neo-fascist newspapers and their “running dog” Tory chums.
Buts its fine. Stan and Ollie are now leading the Scorrish (sic) Toadies, and Boris is coming to holiday at a Scottish military base–sadly for the Blonde One, he doesn’t have choice on location, as David and Theresa shut down so many.
Its a long, long way from the free villa*** in Mustique, but there are not many Russian Oligarchs in auld Scotia.
Ah, the broad shoulders of the uk, the only reason they have broad shoulders (or rather, could have, if they ran a decent economy) is because the uk government is THE currency issuer in the uk – Scotland can very easily have its own broad shoulders if it wants – by being independent and issuing its own currency. Here is an excellent MMT primer – all cartoon style – that explains clearly in the context of the U.K. and the pound, worth a watch
