SNP Health Secretary exposes irrelevance of Scottish Office and Scottish Secretary

Gone fishing?

In a stinging condemnation of both the performance and the lack of purpose of the Scottish Office, the Health Secretary Jeane Freeman, speaking to the Scottish Affairs Committee yesterday, was reported in the Holyrood Magazine last night:

Freeman also said that the Scotland Office had not played any role in the relations between the UK and Scottish governments, going as far as to say that she could not remember having any communications with the Secretary of State for Scotland, Alister Jack. While the Scotland Office is copied in to some letters between Freeman and Hancock, she said she was “not aware [of] and can recall no communications with Mr Jack”.

  1. The SNP need to put this out there a lot more , tell the people how much Westminster and Whitehall keep us out of things , especially things that impact on their lives ,
SNP MP’S should be highlighting these things ! .

    1. Dear John SNP are a devolved government, Westmister is the government of the UK however Nicole Sturgeon thinks she has the right to interfere in all affairs currently interfering in Brexit negotiating and orchestrating other devolved governments to do the same in direct opposition to the Goernment her politically manufactured grievances designed to make relations toxic by division and add weight to her case for independence this is another ploy by her propoganda team the problem with propoganda is that it has nothing to do with the truth!

  2. I’ll bet this won’t be reported anywhere else other than (maybe) the National .
Got the impression from BBC GMS that the Health Secretary had come out on top. Not that they spelt this out, more the lack of reporting, plus no audio clips.

  3. “Union” Jock is Boris’s human shield. He has no function other than pass messages on to Jackson Karloff—“get the bags”–“make the tea”—“don’t show yer teeth when you smile”–“get the make-up girl for that big moon face of yours”.
Oh, and spend our money on propaganda against our own interest. He is pretty good at that–and of course it gets repeated on the BEEB and our colonial press.

  4. There is a vacuum in the Scottish Office – between Alister Jack’s ears . Ms Freeman is blessed NOT to have any input from this sorry excuse for a Scottish Secretary .
FFS he even makes David Mundell look almost competent !

  5. None of the London based political parties in Scotland have much in the way of relevance to what happens here beyond ensuring that we don’t part company with England.
That is just about their sole purpose.

  6. And if I recall correctly staff numbers at Jack’s office were massively boosted, they can’t ALL be propaganda specialists surely, or at least not judging by what Jackass has been given to work with ?

Have you never considered a caption competition for some of these photos you feature, “Elusive poacher finally apprehended”, the SoSS is the one at the back”, “Floating voter feels cheated”, “Peaky Blinders cast sue”, “Gollum special planned for D&G”….
    Laughter can be a devastating anti-propaganda tool…

    1. They built a brand spanking new building at Waverley right to Edin city council offices to house their 2000 new English civil servants far as I know, must be costing a packet, but are they already ensconced? Where do they all live? In bedsits?
Anyone know if it’s opened yet? I haven’t been into Edinburgh for yonks.

  7. As a constituent of Mr jack i wrote to him about Mr Cummings gallivanting about England and received this reply. I believe his second to last paragraph validates Jeane Freeman’s assessment of his role

“Thank you for contacting me about recent reports regarding Dominic Cummings.

I recognise the strength of feeling on this matter and fully appreciate the anger and frustration that people feel about what they have read and heard about this situation.

Mr Cummings has provided a full account and explanation of his actions and it is for people to make up their own minds on whether they believe they were justified. Whilst not everyone will agree, I believe that, in very difficult circumstances, he acted in what he thought were the best interests of his family.

The impact of Covid-19 has been extremely challenging for everyone and we have all been required to make difficult decisions and personal sacrifices in order to protect ourselves and our families. It is thanks to the collective national effort that we have made significant progress in suppressing the virus and it is important, going forward, that everyone continues to follow the advice of both the Scottish and UK Governments.

I will continue to work to support the UK Government’s response to this public health crisis and I hope we can return to more normal lives as soon as possible.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.”
