The Not-the-Glasgow Herald making you feel at home in the UK

The Herald today, headlining:

  1. the resignation of an adviser on decisions about coronavirus only affecting England;
  2. England’s death toll but not Scotland’s much lower rate;
  3. a man who despises his own folk;
  4. not the Scottish justice minister on crime affecting Scotland;
  5. the health secretary for England.

Nothing about death in English care homes?

  1. Did they not mention how badly negotiations with the EU are going on brexit?

    And did I not hear that the UK is starting trade talks with the US? I’m amazed that during this crisis and all the economic devastation that the UK government cares naught for people dying and is carrying on with its no-deal brexiting travesty.

    And the SNP are not even trying to get us out of this disaster of a union.

    And if you need ‘evidence’ for that Alasdair, try thinking where there is evidence for otherwise first, and tell me what it is – I need some kind of hope. If they, in the Scottish government, have time to bring forward more disaster legislation (hate speech now) they aren’t too busy with the coronavirus crisis. Look at NZ number of deaths, then look at ours; which of those hundreds extra was a necessary unavoidable death? The SNP as a wider party has time – look at their website, no real plans, it’s all fluffy political speak, independence is a side issue, a nice-to-have. We should be discussing whether or not we want to join the EU, not whether or not our fatality rate is better than England’s. Nearly the worst in the world. The devolved administration has been acting exactly as that, and does not demonstrate how we could stand as an independent nation. They don’t have to, of course, it will be different – we hope – after we are independent. It shouldn’t just be a hope though, we could have had options to discuss by now. There is nothing there, a blank emptiness where there should be a vision of a future, some concrete images of how we can be structured, how we can move forward, how we can discuss the aspects that interest us, how our thoughts will be heard, how action will be taken. The hand-wringing inaction of the SNP gives me no confidence – we CAN do better, much better, and we should be making it happen. If NZ can do it, we could too.
